Getting rid of Fizdale and changing the front office was the smartest move the Knicks have made in decades. These are critical years in the development of a young player and RJ is fortunate that his career trajectory was altered in a major positive way, early enough to correct mistakes.

Over the last 42 games he has averaged 18/5/3 48/46/75 shooting and a 57 TS% and he is still just 20 years old. Isnt it kind of early to write off his potential on the offensive end?

Yes he wont be a career 46% 3pt shooter. But say he ups his volume (3.5 3pt shots per game) to around 6 and is a solid 37-40% 3pt shooter. Say he ups his FT rate so instead of getting 4 FTs a game, he gets to the line 6 times a game and ups his FT% to the low to mid 80s.

I dont think any of those things are really crazy to believe is possible for him to achieve. That is a very solid foundation to build upon. Add in he is already showing good defense and his work ethic has been praised and praised since he came onto the scene as a high level prospect.

RJ will look even better when the Knicks get some real spacing on the team

I totally agree. He is developing into a very good player. I am happy for him and the Knicks. He reminds me of James Harden when i watch him play.

His numbers are encouraging for his second season, and he showed big improvements, but he still got ways to go, he is an average player for his floor now, he is shooting 38% from 3pt, for a guy that was bad I think its pretty good in more than 50 games in the season. I think he will be good, but no great

It also helps that R.J. Barrett's godfather is Steve Nash.

I'm happy for him that the Knicks got their crap together as I was fearful that they'd find a way to screw things up with him, but to his credit and the team that has not been the case. Barrett just needs to add a consistent 13-17ft jump shot with his improved 3pt shot and FT%. If he does that and keeps building, the sky's the limit for him.

I'm so envious that I can finally see the Canadian national team having a great future to look forward to in the Olympics with the following dudes:

SGA/Cory Joseph
Murray/Dort
Barrett/Wiggins/Brooks
Olynyk/Clarke/Boucher
Thompson/Birch

And then you have other guys like Dwight Powell, NAW, Trey Lyles, Kabengele and many others. Honestly if that team can even get a bronze medal in any of the next 2 Olympics I'd be stoked.

He has an elite mentality which I’ll never bet against. Like Kobe but with a ceiling of Jimmy Butler

He projects to be a star, but is not a guy you can give the ball to and tell him to create a shot for himself or a teammate. He’s a system player. The Knicks need a better number one option than Julius Randle if they’re ever going to make any noise.

His three point shooting has been great this year, but he primarily shoots 3’s when he’s wide open in catch and shoot situations. 99% of his 3’s have been assisted. He’s a low volume 3 point shooter until he diversifies his game by shooting pull ups, off the dribble, or off screens.

RJ has such sharp footwork and shooting motion, he's the new Chris Mullin, plus great defense.
When NBA2k22 arrives, I finally can play a video game without Michael Jordan in my team.

Ceiling of Jimmy? He’ll be better. Jimmy was in college at RJ’s age. It took Jimmy till 25 to average 20. RJ is 5x the player Jimmy was at this age. His ceiling is much higher.

You do know he’s not a finished product? He’s 20 and he’ll be developing his skillset. Who he is right now is no where near who he’ll be in 2-3 years.

Obviously I don’t think he’s a finished product if I’m saying he projects to be a star, right? He’s a system player right now and that could be the case his whole career, it doesn’t mean he won’t get better, and it’s not a knock on him.

Well better taking the ones he is good at for now, he has plenty of skill to get some buckets, he is very fast and has nice handles, and cant be left open. Of course he will be even better adding more tools, but its a nice step for RJ and for the Knicks from last season for this one

SGA Murray and Barrett will fight for that title. Still can't give up on the 2 first overall picks in Wiggins and Bennett lol.

That's what I was telling people until Bubble Murray showed up last year. Now Maple Mamba is slowly improving and could make it a nice 3 person race in a few years.

RJ Barrett to me has high role player potential just off the eye test. He doesn’t do anything special offensively that would show me he will be a star. He’s not a type of player you build around. He’s more like a complimentary piece in a system.
