Read on Twitter

It’s in the NBA’s interest that in Seattle a new team is formed,” Taylor said. “It’s an economic decision that’s in the interest of all of the owners.”

We’ve already had the discussion as owners,” Taylor said during the radio interview. “I’m on the committee, I know that. We’ve had the discussion within the owners group of what we’re going to do and what the future holds for those franchises.”

If they start a new team out there,” Taylor said of Seattle, “that team is going to have to pay maybe $2 billion to get started out there. And they pay those to the other owners.”

When Lacob bought the Warriors for $425M (or whatever it was) in 2010, they had missed the playoffs 14 out of 15 seasons and people were calling it an overpay for a losing franchise.

Anything can happen if good ownership takes over.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

yup...went from being worth 425m in 2010 to being worth 2bil (the 2nd most valuable franchise) in 21...you never know

I don't think the NBA is moving teams any team for the foreseeable future, as it left a pretty black mark on the league the last time it happened (and ironically it was moving out of Seattle).

If there was ever ripe time to move a team it was back around 2010-2012, when the Hornets/Pelicans were put up for sale but they had a very hard time finding a buyer who wanted to keep the team in New Orleans. And it got to the point that David Stern and the League had to take over operations of the franchise for "basketball reasons".

And remember, there were buyers like Larry Ellison who wanted to buy the team and move them, but they were rebuffed by the league. If the NBA refused to move the Hornets/Pelicans in that situation they're unlikely to move the Wolves or any other team anytime soon.

Taylor used this week’s radio interview to say that relocation was not a realistic possibility for the franchise, pointing out that first of all, the contract being drawn up with the buyers would explicitly forbid that.

But let’s just say somehow they were able to break that agreement,” Taylor said. “The real agreement is with the NBA. So the NBA will make the decision if somebody’s going to move or not move. The NBA will not approve of the Timberwolves moving from here to Seattle.”

Joe Lacob AKA Joey light years hit the jackpot with his investors in Silicon Valley. I honestly wish that they could've stayed in Oakland considering how insanely expensive San Francisco has become over the past 5 decades knowing that the land the arena is on could've been put to better use, but oh well. From a business perspective it made sense for the warriors. From $425M thanks to Cohan's trouble with the IRS to $4.7B is just insane.

I still can't believe the original drawings for the Chase Centre resembled that of a toilet bowl which resulted in them having to redraw the plans. I think that blunder has jinxed the W's somewhat, but oh well.

I doubt such a contract is enforceable.

I doubt such a contract is enforceable.

What he's implying is that expansion is in the works. Seattle will receive an expansion team. Therefore, the league wouldn't approve a move.

Relocation is not an option.
