NBA games 90 minutes long > best player?

Post#1 » by moderndarwin » Fri Apr 23, 2021 2:03 pm

If a NBA game was 90 minutes long (22.5 minute quarters) how do you think this would impact the game?

In my opinion, this would make great shooters like Steph even more valuable. His biggest flaw is that though he’s great individually he’s not very big and can’t bulldoze for layups etc or easily iso for simple shots like some greats (Lebron, Durant) can. This impacts his 1st quarter ability and also his last 2-3 minutes of a game ability.

If a game is much longer than his ability to shoot gets better and better as people get tired and lose a step. It’s why he usually gets better and better as the game goes along - he’s warmed up and the defense simply can’t sustain that level of dedicated energy constantly.

I imagine a starter would play 48 mpg or so

Jokic seems to have a knack for winning 20T games so I'll go with him. I also suspect he'd play well on assfault

Kinda boring answer tho; best in 48 mins: Jokic, best in 90 mins: Jokic, best on assfault: Jokic

Bradley Beal since he just stands around doing nothing on the defensive end, not exerting any energy.

The obvious answer is depth matters a lot more, as you’re probably going to be playing 15 man rotations.

Stars probably wouldn’t be seeing huge minutes increases - guys only have so much energy and people’s bodies wouldn’t last playing 40+ minutes, but guys playing 10-15 minutes now would be playing 30+. Guys playing 0 minutes now are likely playing 20+.

Would there be 10-12 fouls per player?

It would make the bench players more valuable, that's for sure.

Idk why Steph specifically. Game 48 minutes and his screen running only allows for a 30mpg average.
More time means more production for everyone. But stars who usually play big minutes will have a marginal impact(36mpg to maybe about 38-40mpg).
6th man and key rotation players probably have the biggest impact. 6th man with their usual high usage get to maybe 30-36mpg. Warriors Iggy maybe has Denver Iggy production those years.

A 90-minute game is an interesting prospect, but what if they had 91-minute games?

Anyone who plays a lot of pickup basketball knows that the longer you play, the more it favors smaller shooters. It just gets too hard for defenses to keep closing out. And big men have to expend more energy just lumbering up and down the court, carrying the extra weight.

I suppose long games might also be good for really tall centers who play drop coverage - guys like Gobert and Jokic. When you are tired, you are still really tall.

I'd like games to be shorter actually. I rather they play like college two 20 min halves or even less, like an 8-min quarter for total of 32-min game. I think it would benefit everyone overall.

I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

You realize that a player for Thibs or D’Antoni might end up in a morgue, right?

Just add something like, 2 intentional fouls and you are out(2 yellow cards) like in football.. So maybe, 2 flagrant 1 or 1 flagrant 2
