I was thinking about Russ and Embiid more in the opposite direction. Wizards winning the play in and battling Embiid h2h

If that happens, I’d expect sparks to fly.

I respect the hell out of Westbrook, and I don't know why people don't like him, even though he is cocky (who isnt?), he is nice, genuine, and according to all sources, a great teammate and person.

But... just because he can rack up assists, rebounds, and points, it doesn't make him all around. He has limited portability and scalability. I get what you are saying, but my definition of all round games including the ability to play off ball, to space the floor, to cut, to be more than competent on defense and etc. His offensive game is also not diverse enough. But ya, definitely one of the greatest motor in the history of the game, and a worker. This was an awesome game for him, went to the basket aggressively, took less than 10 shots, no 3s attempted, and pushed the transition every time.

Yeah, I know he is inefficient with too many missed shots and turnovers, but his relentless energy is infectious. Also, his assists are legit. He's not just driving and kicking for contested jumpers, he feeds the big men for dunks time and time again. He has made Alex Len, Robin Lopez and Daniel Gafford all look like All-Stars.
I respected his game when he was with OKC because he has a motor like I have never seen. He's does it all and outs his body on the line. Now, it doesn't always lead to win, but give him a superior frontcourt talent and he will be very successful.

sure reads to me like pinky was complimenting him not dissing him. Basically saying he's a great player with one "fatal" flaw.

We could say this about a lot of players. If Rudy Gobert scored 22 ppg he'd be an MVP candidate every year. If Draymond could shoot a lick, same thing. If Zach LaVine tried on defense, he'd be all-NBA. And so on.

We can both appreciate Westbrook and acknowledge his flaws, but sadly too many always want to live on the extremes and make it all or nothing.

Always have to throw in a shot at the Bulls in your posts. A very uneducated one, at that. Saying Zach doesn't try on defense is simply false. Not sure if you are just trolling. We should expect better out of a moderator.

Westbrook was picking them off all night long with accurate passes to sweet spots for his teammates, that is what he does. I believe he has by far biggest lead on such assists without having competent center till Gafford. It is no surprise Wizards 3 man center lineup are basically having career years this year offensively. Man is the most underrated passer and playmaker in NBA today, which is telling a lot when Westbrook lead NBA in total assists in last decade and is leading NBA in total assists this decade (or is Young still few assists ahead of him) and now has 3 assist titles on his career.

Weird post considering that Westbrook only played 58 games. Why count the games he didn't play in?

Like it has been said nunerous times, Westbrook doesn't change his style of play, if he had a triple-double, it's probably because his teammates hit more shot which translates into wins or he played better. You are acting like in the games they lost Westbrook played completely different and told himself : "In this one, no triple double, that will show them how useful I am."

It's as dumb as saying that when player X scores 50, the team is 5-0, therefore the player needs to shoot over 30 times every game.. .

Going to assume the poster meant: how many assists could Russ get if he adopted a pure passer mentality? I dunno probably like 21!

Definitely don't see how rebounds could eat into assists (Russ generates assists off both defensive and offensive boards), but we all wonder what Westbrook might accomplish if he traded in a couple pull-up jumpers with more defense collapsing playmaking possessions.

I'm sure on some level, Westbrook's unpredictability (he sometimes looks like the real life version of an NBA video game player just button mashing. If Westbrook pulled up to shoot a 3 after catching a defensive rebound, I'd only be a little bit surprised) makes him hard to guard and keeps the defense confused. But surely there's a better balance to strike than his current version. Westbrook is having his best stretch in years right now, and it's not because he's started making better decisions. He's just turning up the Westbrook to full blast, which seems to be his only option. It's working!

I always felt, people who actually played ball know how hard it is to get stats like these. EVEN IF your team is letting you get the rebounds, it still takes an incredible amount of energy and determination. Amazing.

I'm not sure this suggests that they are more skilled or less skilled. We can say their defensive skill is worse, but then say it's the rules. On the other hand, the argument can be made that it is actually increased shooting skill that allowed for so many points in the paint trying to guard 3's. So it's not really making any clear argument either way.

Having Westbrook on your team means your team would most likely win 41 games because he's a good floor raiser. However, he puts a hard cap on how good your team is. His inefficient, high usage play doesn't translate well against elite teams. I mean, the guy has played with at least 3 MVP level players (OKC Durant, OKC George, HOU Harden), multiple all star level players (Beal, OKC Harden, OKC Ibaka, OKC Oladipo, MAYBE OKC Carmelo etc) and has never won a championship. Swap Westbrook with a Ricky Rubio, who is a worse player but is self-aware enough to know not to shoot 30 shots, the OKC Thunder would have won at least 1 already.

So in last 2 games Westbrook has 33 rebounds and 41 assists. We need to go back 9 games for Curry to have more than that of assists. Just bringing up what a crazy numbers he puts up. With 2nd on the official qualified list Trae Young we need to go back 5 games.

Also 7 and 9 games for each player on rebounds.

Bump. Westbrook puts up a 13/17/17 triple double in a win that kills the Raptors playoff hopes.

He was not good tonight, and lol at "kills Raptors playoff hopes" the Raps are trying to tank.

They sat out Lowry and OG. Siakam and FVV were smiling right after losing a buzzer beater double OT games.

I like Russ as a competitor, but tonight was one of those classic nights where his stat line looks nicer than his actual play did.
