Wizards-Hornets playing tomorrow for the #8 seed. The Grizzlies-Warriors playing for the #8 seed in the western conference. Lakers and Blazers playing tomorrow for the right to not be in the play-in game. The NBA couldn't have scripted this better. The play-in game is here to stay.

...and you won't believe how much a relegation rule will do wonders to the anti-tanking issue.

Amazing how it came out, last game is 8-9 for the 8th spot in both confetences.
Clippers need to out tank OLC, that'd be interesting to see.

Well I'm excited about those games but the play in tournament is still garbage and the NBA got lucky this season.

Still not a fan of the play in game. During a weird pandemic season I guess it’s fine, but they shouldn’t keep it during normal times. You get 82 games to make the playoffs. Last year the Mavericks were 7.5 games ahead of the 8 seed. It would’ve been dumb for them to have to play in a play-in tournament to make the playoffs.

The play in is trash.. one of the 7th or 8th seeds could end up not bein in the playoffs after playing a whole season good enough to be in it

So what?

I think it will lose its luster in a regular season because what, a play in game to likely get eliminated in the actual first round will become less interesting until there's more parity in any given season (which is long ways off). But right now it's entertaining because it feels like every team has packed it in for the season.

Team A and team B have finished the play in tournament.

This season Team A have played a total of 74 games and have won 41.

Team B have also played 74 games and have won 32.

Team B made the playoffs, and team A is out.

With the play in tournament that would possible. And that would suck.

It remains inherently unfair to the #7 and #8 seeds who earned their playoff spot through 72 games to possibly lose their season because a less deserving team got hot for one game, or have players accumulate fatigue or worse get hurt.

I'd be more open to having only the #8 seed play the winner of the 9-10 match-up, but it's just a farce and a cash grab by the NBA.

Game 3: Wizards/Pacers winner at Celtics/Hornets loser -- winner is No. 8 seed in playoffs

WEST

Game 1: No. 8 Golden State Warriors at No. 7 Los Angeles Lakers -- winner is No. 7 seed in playoffs; loser moves on in play-in

Game 2: No. 10 San Antonio Spurs at No. 9 Memphis Grizzlies -- winner moves on in play-in; loser is eliminated

Game 3: Grizzlies/Spurs winner at Lakers/Warriors loser -- winner is No. 8 seed in playoffs

im still in this camp. Until the reduce the amount of back to backs and games im not for play in.

I'll consider it a success if both Celtics and Lakers are eliminated. That'd be hilarious.

Hypothetically, if the Celtics and Wizards end up getting the 7th and 8th spots respectively after the play-in is complete, then they would have effectively won the opportunity to get spanked in the first round. That's the prize in all of this. The only exception is the Lakers if they end up in the play-in, but that only happened because of injuries. Every other team would be playing for an ass whopping. It's ridiculous. But it will make money, so yes, it is here to stay.
