We don't need anymore idiotic anti-competitive "tournaments" designed to raise revenue because Silver and Co. are unable to boost ratings organically

A tournament for tournament sake is dumb. Something needs to be on the line that makes it worth tuning in for, and it can’t be over rewarding either.

They should make the players compete in a cornhole match before and after every game.

How about this clown just change up the rules where every team doesn’t have to take 100 3 pointers to win a game. The game is so ducking generic. Same copy and paste.

This could be great if the players have a proper incentive ($$$) to play as hard as possible. Single elimination games are always fun.

Someone needs to stop Adam Silver before he ruins the NBA completely.

If you introduce this, you better get rid of all star game, like they do in Europe. Euro leagues basically got rid of all star game, but instead in first half of the season, they will have few cup games shuffled in, but when final 4 or 8 teams are left, they do a cup tournament weekend, which is basically all star weekend, but instead of celebrity and all star games, they have cup semifinals and finals on Sunday, you can still all festivals before the finals game, but Cup FInal game is just so much more interesting than All star game.

That said, I doubt they get rid of all star game, nobody likes it, but they have it for tradition sake at this point.

Think it's a terrible idea to have a meaningless tournament? What are teams playing for? Risking injury in some scrimmage games?

The play-in sucks. This would be next level awful. Might actually lose me as fan...

I actually wouldn’t be against a single game elimination tournament midseason. The regular season has turned into joke anyway

I want this. It's something to play for, and accolade hunters would get up for this. This is nothing like the play-in, so I don't get why people bring that up.

I'm against it. MJ, Shaq and Kobe never got to play in this tournament, and in the future lack of these tournament MVP's might hurt them on paper when comparing them to current or future greats. Don't create award or trophy's for things MJ didnt have a chance to compete for.

Silver definitely feeling himself after the success of the play in.

The thing is, what is the point of this? I feel that the play in created clear incentives that led to more competitive late regular season games. What would the mid season tournament be fixing? Why should players and teams be motivated for this anymore than a normal regular season game? Why would casual fans care about this mid season tournament?

I’m all for creative ideas but this seems like a dumb money grab.

How about a beginning of the season tournament too?!

Overall, I am very pro this tournament. I liked the idea of making this U24 or something like that, basically a cup for up and coming teams of the league. Fans always debate each other whose team has best young talent, well, this would settle it.

And its not srimmage, its a trophy. You thinking its meaningless because it doesnt exist yet, so to your perspective it has no meaning. but when you introduce a trophy, every player and fan will still want to win, thats the point of sports. Yes, it would never have the same prestige as O'Brien trophy, but no cup is, but it is still a trophy team and fans can be proud of.

Might as well get a talent show going as well, maybe a full on NBA olympics, let’s see if LeBron is still the King after synchronized swimming competitions.
