Hawks in 6
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

How do you feel about Embiid? Think he'll play, be back about close to normal?

I’m not sure, I hope the sixers don’t get cute thinking they can win game 1 or game 2 without him. We need him available for each game vs these hawks. They have a lot of shooters so we definitely going to need Joel in the lineup to off set some of their shooting.

Embiid is the crucial piece here. If he's not playing or not close to his best, I like the Hawks' chances.

Nothing to be gleaned from the regular season matchups.

Hawks win this if Embiid doesn't play or plays at 50%, and they lose it if he plays at 70%+. If Embiid only returns at the point where Sixers are facing elimination, I give the edge to the Hawks, because it means Embiid is not really ready. So if we see Embiid playing from game 1 or game 2, I got Philly in 5 or 6, and if he doesn't, Hawks in 5 or 6.

I don't think Embiid can play. Hunter took 8 weeks and two procedures. Its tough for the 76ers but injuries are rampant this season. I picked the Hawks in 7.

Capela, Collins, Hunter, Gallinari will rule the front line. Simmons can only guard one player and that ain't Trae ....

Sixers need to conserve Simmons foul rate and availability. So they would be idiots to put Simmons on trae young to began the game. That’s how Simmons got in trouble guarding Beal in game 4 with foul problems.

Rather put thybulle on trae young. And double and chase him. If he wants to settle for 30 foot 3 point shots. Let him. The key is not to to let him get in the lane with the floater. Young for all his antics is not a great 3 point shooter. Thybulle just has to not fall for young backing his butt in or head whiplash when he’s chasing him from behind to create contact.

Without Embiid its going to be a interesting series. Embiid has owned Atl for his career. Averaging 24/10 and a .653 TS% in less than 30 minutes a game...

Career, Capela holds his own: https://stathead.com/tiny/SuHYc

Head to head this season, Embiid shot 48%fg and 25%3p with 1 assist, 3 TOs, and Capela blocked him twice: https://go.nba.com/01kp. Capela shot 35% with 0 assists, 4 TOs and Embiid blocked him once: https://go.nba.com/y0ko. Disclaimer: Take NBA player tracking matchup stats for what they're worth.

I said Sixers in 7, but it's difficult to gauge without knowing whether Embiid will play and his effectiveness if he does. I think the Sixers win in 5 or 6 with Embiid fully healthy, and the Hawks win in 7 without him, so I kind of split the difference.

Did anybody make the joke about a rookie Ben Simmons stepping in to fill in at C when his superstar teammate went down, similar to rookie Magic?

Rookie magic Johnson shot 80% from free throws line. Ben Simmons will never sniff even 70%.

By year 4 age 23. Magic Johnson had already developed a reliable baby hook. He added the standstill outside shot as well. While never a great outside shooter. Magic had a pretty reliable low post game.

This will be an interesting series if Embiid can't go.

Trae is going to be getting chased by Thybulle and Simmons all game, and I'm sure they're going to try to hunt the Trae matchup on the defensive end. I think Trae's probably too good of a ball handler and passer to be able to hard trap like they did with Beal, but we'll see.

We'll get to see how Doc and McMillan measure up with one another, because I expect there to be a lot of chess moves and counters throughout.

Agree on all counts.

How would you expect PHI to attack Trae on D? Knicks fans kept calling for it, but they really don't have the personnel.

I imagine the Hawks will move heaven and earth to avoid letting Simmons get Trae in the post. We unearthed footage of the Hawks coaching staff seeing Trae, with a bent arm, finna attack Ben's post-up ...

It kinda depends on who he's defending and how they choose to defend certain actions. I didn't watch much of the Hawks/Knicks series aside from highlights, so I'm not sure what their scheme looked like. If they switch, I imagine the Sixers be doing whatever they can to get Tobias the ball in the paint with Trae on him.

My guess would be the Hawks try to just hide Trae on Thybulle (if he starts), and that the Sixers use Thybulle as a screener a lot just to make Trae do something on that end, and the Hawks do whatever they can to not make the switch.
