Why do no teams want Larry Brown as head coach?

I saw he's being hired by Penny to be an assistant coach in college, and his last job in the NBA was almost a decade ago - what's the reason? He has championship pedigree.

I don’t think he wants to coach in the NBA anymore.

Can he relate to this generation of players? He makes Doc look like a spring chicken.

He's 80 years old and hasn't coached since 2016. At this point, I'm surprised that he's taking any job.

He never liked playing young guys and rookies a decade a go, he just would not fit the league culture these days

You need to have guys in rookie deals contributing in this nba where 2 or 3 guys almast take up your whole cap space

He always struck me as one of the more overrated coaches anyway. He coached in the ABA/NBA for 38 years and got one title. Yeah that title was a big achievement (injuries to the Lakers not withstanding), but he also lost a lot of playoff series.

Anyway he's pretty old-school and probably wouldn't mesh too well with the divas in today's NBA.

I don't think his style works with the modern NBA. He's great at producing a winner with a veteran team, but he's bad at developing and using younger players. He also doesn't fit the modern trend of hiring coaches who coddle their stars. He's also 80 years old. :D

Some guys seem salty af about LB. Dude can teach Penny a thing or two and I give Hardaway props for recognizing greatness and reaching out to Larry. It's not like he's gonna have much say anyway, but there is a wealth of talent to tap into...

Well, he’s old as hell for one thing.

He puts pressure on the GM to get his kind of players. He's always successful wherever he goes.

You have a better chance of seeing Mike Brown again than you do Larry Brown

Great basketball coach. Love & miss his X & O's.

But his basketball philosophy seems to be the antithesis of today's nba game, unfortunately.

More importantly, he's too old now. 80. Even at 75, I'd have hired him in a second. Not many others would, though.

Because he was nearly 40 years old when the Vietnam War ended.

Well, that's not true. He's had several unsuccessful stops over the years. It takes a certain type of roster to excel under LB. Fantastic basketball mind, though. No question.

Right now, age is probably the biggest (80). But he was never able to fully commit to a team. He'd be there, and then not want to stay, even before his contract ended. It's a risk for teams to take a chance when you're trying to build something.

Yeah, I have no idea why no team wants to hire Don Nelson. He's perfect for today's game!

Too old? This sounds like age-ism.

Well, of course I can never forgive him for not drafting Paul Pierce, let alone Dirk, when he had the chance. Pierce was so obvious and fit a huge need the Sixers had at the time, but he had to prove how brilliant he was as a GM. But I got to admit, him walking into the ready made situation in Detroit was perfect. Hell of a season. I suppose he’s still doing consultant work, which would be the best fit at this point.

Why do no teams want an 80yr old head coach who last coached in the league a decade ago and who's last two NBA stints resulted in failure?

With all the possible unlikely thread topics available at this point in the attrition wars ("Luke Kennard v. Kevin Huerter v. Pat Connaughton who ya got?") how'd we end up with one where the answer was so obvious?
