Should Bucks have traded for Chris Paul instead of Jrue Holiday

Post#1 » by DelAbbot » Wed Jul 7, 2021 3:35 am

Nov 2020. The Suns traded Kelly Oubre, Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, Jalen Lecque and a 2022 first-round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Paul and Abdel Nader.

Nov, 2020. The Milwaukee Bucks acquired guard Jrue Holiday and the draft rights to 2020 second round pick Sam Merrill (60th overall) from the New Orleans Pelicans. The Bucks send out:
- draft rights to 2020 first round pick R.J. Hampton (24th overall)
- unprotected first round draft pick 2025
- unprotected first round draft pick 2027
- right to swap first round draft picks in 2024 and 2026 to the Pelicans.
- Eric Bledsoe
- George Hill

Any team should have traded for Chris Paul. What he's doing out there at his age is just sublime. People were calling him an albatross contract two years ago, now he's led a weak OKC team to the playoffs and the Suns to the Finals in back-to-back years. He really is the Point God.

When I first saw the trade I thought it was a massive overpay for an overrated "two way player". Now his defense doesnt even look all that elite and he was never good offensively. Just decent at best.

To me he is the third best player in the NBA - Luka and Embiid are comfortably ahead of him.

Of course. I said it at the time.

Holiday is overrated. You don't trade that much for a non All Star.

For sure, Holiday was a marginal upgrade over Bledsoe

Yikes. And people make fun of us for overpaying for Vucevic. What we paid for him pales in comparison to what the Bucks paid for Jrue.

Easy to say they made the wrong move tonight but at the time it looked like a good decision.

Holiday is 5 years younger and will still be performing at a high level 2-3 years from now while CP3 might retire at 38.

That's a bit of a wild conclusion, but look whose making it.

Holiday def moved the needle, they're in the finals. His impact goes beyond the stat sheet but he and Middleton need to def be more aggresive

Yes, and they shouldn't have let Brogdon walk either.

Wouldn’t have made a difference. Bucks have a coaching problem not a player problem

Hindsight is 20-20, but that said, CP3 looked good with the Thunder, he clearly still had enough left in the tank.

Holiday can't be playing like this in the finals if he wants to be close to the same level as Paul.

Starting at 00:01 He moved 3 feet during the whole possession, including the rebound and dunk by Ayton.

Lol.
But in all seriousness: Paul and Monty Williams weren’t going to get to work together in MIL so this is moot. Paul wasn’t going there.

I don't know how anyone could say otherwise. I've only been seething about it for months. I'll stop if we win.
