HULU already has live sports IIRC

ESPN+ is trying that out next year with PGA Tour Live. Obviously a much smaller scope of business than NBA and it only covers windows that do not fall within Golf Channel coverage on Thurs/Fri. and network coverage on the weekends.

I think the problem is that if they have lots of people that pay $250 a season of LP, it would probably take a ton of newer subscribers to pay $59.99 a year for ESPN+ (I believe that is the current rate) to make that worth it and there is probably a ton of cross-over subscribers already.

granted SOMEONE will pick up the nba. i mean there will be no loss of suitors, but it has to be a NETWORK channel. abc throws the nba a bone come finals but during the season it's almost all nbaTV and tnt. infrequently espn/abc

fact is for a big3 sport, espn/abc does NOTHING for the nba. the nba should switch because they're getting utter cr@p coverage now.

Unless TNT is looking to expand their sports network there isn't any other viable choice for them to go man. ESPN is as big as can be, and despite their subpar coverage(to our standards) they still are as mainstream as can be. People saying they should go the online/streamer route is just crazy because despite all the cord cutters, there are still a large segment of people who pay for cable -especially for sports coverage.

Yes. Please.

That would be a huge improvement.

Forget about Taylor/Nichols stuff. I recall Nichols trying to tell viewers, with like a month left in the season (I think it was) and Embiid having already missed like 19 games how the MVP race wasn't over yet (she was stanning for Embiid, I think). She was basically dissing Jokic stans (and doing so in a foolish way, IMO).

I'd rather watch The Starters on a loop than watch the ESPN 'talent' talk about the NBA. Get people who know more about the subject, at least when it comes to hosts.

It doesn't really matter . They'll still have all the same content that pisses people off with the sole exception of halftime shows.

Yeah, all the crap they've been pooping out the past few months makes this clear. Their biggest headlines of late are all race baiting stories to divide people. Nothing about sports, really.

Jalen Rose "KLove on the team bc he's white"
Jay Williams "Congrats Udoka, being the first black to coach Celtics"
Nichols vs Taylor drama/"leak  "
Scottie Pippen "Phil was a racist bc he played Kukoc instead of me"

But, the NBA is extremely "woke" so I don't expect them to care that much. My personal opinion is they should get rid of ESPN but ESPN/Disney/ABC is pretty powerful. I'm not sure if they even have competition.

I, like I'm sure many others here, grew up with the NBA on NBC.

We deserve to have John Tesh's theme back.

Bulls/Sonics Gm1 was not only the GOAT NBA on NBC intro but the greatest intro to anything in human history

Hulu has live national televised games. If you want to watch your local team play then your SOL because nobody can get their ish together.

Yes! Get rid of both ESPN and TNT. Both are trash.

As others have mentioned, please bring back NBA on NBC and Bob Costas. The NBA just felt so much more epic during this time period with that John Tesh music and those amazing Bob Costas intros to games.

That's so good.

Bob Costas should have to do at least the Finals every year too. He also makes everything better.

The people talk more about the Espn than the Nba finals. That finals must be funny

They need to invest more into NBATV like NFL Network does.

Again, another thing the NFL is better than the NBA at. Recruit all of the broadcasting talent in the world and have exclusive around the clock NBA coverage and exclusive games.

Build your brand using your brand and promote it more. Stop outsourcing your brand to other networks.

In a perfect world where TV deals don't exist, how well would an NBA streaming service work?

$10-15/month for:

- every game every night regardless of market (no blackouts)
- historic playoff games and iconic regular season games (Kobe 81, etc.)
- documentaries like The Last Dance and other 30 for 30 style programs
- ESPN-esque talking heads shows because some people still enjoy those
- other misc (dunk contests, international games if they could get the rights)

I don't watch as much basketball as I used to but a few years ago I probably would've pulled the trigger on something like that. Would never work now with the logistics of TV deals and market blah blah blah but idk I think it could pull some serious money in for the league.

Thats also what the NFL Network has. 50% of their airtime is live coverage, every day. The other 50% is broadcasting mini-series shows they made like 'A Football Life' and 'Hard Knocks' while also playing back memorable Super Bowls and record setting games. They even have shows dedicated strictly to Fantasy Football.

NFLN is like ESPN but all they talk about is football. And their analysis dont suck with no Skips/Shannons/Kellermans

THAT is what the NBA needs to do and completely revamp NBATV.

bstein14 wrote:Downside of getting rid of them is that then ESPN has much less interest is covering the NBA. 24 hour sports network you want them to have shows like The Jump. I think it would be great to see a 3rd network take some of the games but the NBA needs ESPN just like ESPN needs the NBA.

Perhaps YouTube or Facebook start broadcasting live games as TV is moving to Apps anyways.

Getting off Espn would be a killer for nba. Like then or hate then, they have access to sports fans.
