Which basketball style do you prefer?

I prefer FIBA, tho I have rules that I dont like, like Jump ball not being there, and unsportsmanlike fouls are getting called a bit much.

I don't watch fiba but the NBA needs to calm down on the excessive foul calls.

The foul-hunting on offense has to stop at some point. Nobody likes it.

FIBA easily.

The NBA needs to go back to the 00's style of basketball. Even the 90's brand would be better.

They need to empower defenders again, but lets not act ISO 00s were good... Too bad Silver believes higher scoring games means more fans, maybe hes right and I am just a dinosaur, but to me its absurd how little defense there is now in the NBA. Some NBA stars are really inflated, its not just Mirotic12 fairy tale, like how the hell Giannis scores 50 points in supposed best league in the world, I know everyone in Giannis' honeymoon but come on, player like that shouldnt score 50 ever.

With today's pace and rules catering to offense, yes. Even flawed offensive players can go for 50 rather easily. Look how many bad teams go for 40 point quarters. These guys are not more talented than they were 10-20 years ago. The rules have changed. That's all.

But going back to Giannis - try betting on him replicating those numbers in a FIBA format. Its not gonna happen. Ever.

Calling out the product today has nothing to do with being a 'dinosour' either. It is simply forming an objective opinion based on the multiple different products we have watched. IMO, the late 00's formed the best product. Based on what I have seen the last 20 years. Today's overall product is where the early 00's were, just for opposite reasons.

I mean I just watched an interview of 18 year old Giannis saying "I'm better suited in the NBA style" LOL
In FIBA you park a couple of people in the paint and all his space is gone. Add the fact the actual court is a little smaller and even more space is gone. The 3pt line is closer so all the shooters are now closer, and their defenders can recover to him faster.
Then they call all the palming and travelling properly, so part of his comfort zone is gone too.
He still gets a bunch of buckets and boards but nowhere near those easy 30-40s he gets in the NBA.

Best comp I can think of is like going from 9 ball to 8 ball in pool. Same thing, but different.

American here, and I voted "slightly FIBA." I'd probably vote "strongly," but I don't feel I watch enough to make that statement.

I'm generally an NBA chauvinist just based on the talent and the fact that it's what I've been exposed to, but things have gotten out of hand with the limitations on defenses, and for years now, whenever I catch a FIBA-rules game, it takes about two minutes for me to relax into my chair as I say to myself, "Ah yes, basketball... I remember this." It's more pronounced now than ever.

The NBA rules are the way they are for a reason: they're not for us. We are the minority of basketball junkies, the NBA is trying to capture the gazillions of casuals. That's where the money is.
