RANKING PROJECT: #4 Best Player in the league

This project is simple.

This is "NOT" About moving forward, it's about right now.

Fyi it's NOT for 2021-2022 season. It's if the season was still going today, and the NBA finals were happening right now.

I'm not sure how you would define best player in the league then...

Which player gives you the best odds to win a finals right now (Best player) with a CLEAN ROSTER.

Clean roster means if this was a redraft of the whole league. And nobody is on the team yet. This way you take teammates play styles, skill/talent out of the equation and focus only on who gives the best odds to win a Ring today based on pure skill, talent, ability.

#1. Giannis 39%
#2. KD 35%
#3. Luka Doncic 35%
#4. ??

Adding Devin Booker

Curry for me. It was his first season without a superstar to cede to since 2016, and uncoincidentally also the first one since he played at his unanimous-MVP level.

It’s easy to understate his impact on the team. Never mind their 2-7 record and -10 Otrg without him; just look at how his play-in competition defended him. They overcommitted to him with impunity because he didn’t have any offensively well-rounded teammate.

I think Kawhi was better when healthy, but therein lies the problem: durability is the most important ability, and the gap between him and Curry in that department is just unignorable. In a nutshell, Curry is likelier to outperform Kawhi than the latter is to last an entire playoffs run.

We’ll see how LeBron bounces back this season, but Curry was arguably better than him in the regular season. It’s the playoffs where LeBron usually outdistanced him; but neither went on a true run this year, and it’s hard to grant the Lakers SF the benefit of the doubt given his age, mileage, and protracted recovery time from his ankle injury.

Jokic has been superb as well, but he’s not as proven of a playoffs-performer. It takes more than one season like this, as elite as it was, to establish such a track record.

Why do we rank players now knowing there will be 20 of such ranking projects throughout the summer when people have nothing to do?

OP has a long history on the general board creating Player Comparison threads I don't remember his ranking threads go anywhere close to being accurate or informative. This one is no different, no players pool, no links to the previous threads. You even got the record wrong - Giannis received 40% votes in thread #1, not 39%.

It's like those Instagram accounts who post those daily "Team A vs Team B who ya got" posts by randomly selecting 10 NBA goats without much thinking just to get people start arguing, and then you swipe right it's all jersey ads yet comment area is quickly filled with "bro are you insane how can you take Team B do u even watch basketball" type of comments.

The problem with these polls are that the posters that stan usually have a higher probability for multiple accounts and votes.

Yeah, apparently he is better than Curry, who averaged 32 PPG on world class TS%. Nothing new here on realGM!

I meant not as proven in the sense that Curry has been dominant in that realm for considerably longer. I don’t mean to slight Jokic since he was comparably great in this year’s postseason; it’s just that I’d still trust Curry more in such situations for now.

If Jokic sustains this level of play for more runs, however, I’ll happily sing a different tune.

doncic has a very legit claim to being top 3 in the league. he is a wizard and unstoppable offensively. this mavs team is utter crap without him.
