Mouthpiece throwing for distance?

For me its the off-ball work combined with his endurance. Shooting gets a lot harder when your legs are gassed and this dude is moving constantly. Not only is it incredible he can still shoot that accurately, but all that movement just opens up so many things for his teammates.

Obviously he's a very good finisher, good ball-handler, great teammate, unselfish, all that. But if I'm picking just one its the Kyle Korver/Reggie Miller offball movement only on fast forward and without their size to deal with all the bumping and grabbing he constantly deals with.

His workouts must be ridiculous to get through seasons the way he does. Incredible offensive player.

Have you ever seen Steve Nash, Baron Davis, Jason Kidd?

Their entire careers. All incredible ball handlers. I'd still put Steph above them.

I don't think Curry is even close to top 2-3 ball-handlers in the league. His handles are nice, but not very tight and a lot of clips we've seen on highlight reels is caused by his shooting ability - not handles by itself.

Handles should be judged on how well you can get to spots you want to be in. Curry isn't ATG dribbler in traffic.

Not sure his handles hold him back from getting to spots, I think that's more a strength thing. Though maybe you're right, Steve Nash wasn't stronger than Steph and he went anywhere and everywhere.

It can be hard to separate things sometimes. The threat of Steph's shot keeps defenders off balance and always overplaying, it might make his dribbling look better. He doesn't get as low as Harden or Kyrie or have quite the same lateral shiftiness on some of his moves.

Nash is a strange one. He had such control of his body that he always seemed to get an angle to the rim despite a lack of preternatural quickness. I think Steph has some of that body awareness ability but he's more inclined to shake guys off the dribble with his handle. The other difference is that defenders were more likely to be wary of Nash's ability to pass in traffic than they are with Steph, which perhaps opens up driving lanes more.

his handles are being severely underrated here. but people seem to be defining it differently. if handles are to be viewed in terms of TOs, which is fair enough for a ball handler, yeah he's little sloppy. his dribbling is kind of free flowing, he just sort of floats around doing whatever he needs to get that space, and he takes chances with it. nash did that, except he wasn't looking to make a shot so he took less chances. no need to split a double and then get enough separation to set himself up so he can get a shot off using 1 inch off the ground jumpshot. steph got the handles to take the chances and get away with it almost all the time. kyrie kind of does it, but he wants to take it to the hole so he's little more intentional on where he wants to go. but his handles are better anyways.

i get that his off-ball movements are GOAT level and i can even understand putting that 2nd best skill. it's 2a/2b at best for me. His finishing is pretty ridiculous too. but steph doesn't get lot of his shots off without his handles, even the long ones.

Off topic but does anyone watch Steph's mini golf show Holey Moley? I'm not even a golf fan but I really enjoy it. It's kinda like Wipeout but less repetitive/stupid and with miniature golf. The hosts Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore are hilarious and great together. It's become a guilty pleasure of mine. That's all I wanted to say about that, carry on.

Finishing ability around the rim. He actually converts layups at a higher % than PGs who are bigger and much more athletic than him, even in their respective peaks (Westbrook, John Wall, Kyrie, etc).

LeBron cried to Adam Silver to have Draymond Green suspended and even lobbied to suspend him for another game so that he can win against a short handed Warriors. Without that LeBron would be ringless in Cleveland and 0-4 against Stephen Curry.

This may be too nuanced, but it has to be his ability to shoot so efficiently off the dribble. That's what makes (i) everyone chase him during his off ball movement; (ii) double team him at half court; (iii) double and triple team him as he approaches the paint. He can make every shot, from bombs to floaters in the paint to finishing at the rim, and in each instance he gets his shot off in a flash. The fact that if you give him any space Curry will often translate that into one of the highest scoring % in the league makes him one of the greatest scoring threats the league has seen...ever.

If that's too nuanced, I'ld say its what I call his spatial awareness. His understanding where the ball is in relation to where other players are on the court may be the best of all time...it's what contributes to his near league leading steals each year, his ability to dribble into and through traffic and his ability to hunt down rebounds despite being physically outmatched in most circumstances.

You cant name 1 other thing?

Edit-

1. shooting (and gravity ill put in one)- best in the league

2. Off ball movement- best in the league

3. Finishing around the basket- consistently one of the top guards in layup %. Knows how to use english.

4. Rebounding - very good rebounder for his size. 5-6 rebounds a game now in his prime. Example: last year he had 5.5 rebounds. Look at the 6-7 to 6-11 star guards and small fowards that average 7-8 rebounds a game. They are called good rebounders. Thats a difference of 1.5 to 2 rebounds a game.

5. Passing- above average for a pg. Dropped 8.5 assists when he was a traditional point guard not even in his prime and pre-stats/pace inflation that happened the past 4 years. Still drops 5-7 assists per game now in his prime even when he is primarily off ball. Also top of the league in hockey assists.
