i liked the play in this year it was fun. i think in general it will suck though.

i don’t see any reason this won’t fail

I thought the play in would be bad but that was pretty awesome. A regular season can become boring to casuals so why not try to add some fun half way through? I have no clue how it will go but don't see much to lose here.

NBA fans: The regular season is too long and players sit out too many games.

Seems like they're trying to milk that "mini playoff" sort of atmosphere they created with the play-in. As a fan, you'd like to see it, but we already have people complaining about the season being too long. Not to mention the influx of injuries, rest time, etc.

Maybe they ought to just make certain weeks of the regular season be the tournament. Basically makes the regular season games feel more important.

How about you just make the game watchable? That might be a start

Yeah wild to adopt highly popular ideas from the most popular sports leagues in the world. Whatever could he possibly be thinking about?

This would obviously reduce a too long regular season and give players an extended mid-season break as they get eliminated but with a real incentive to try and win. This leads to better basketball in the 2nd half of the RS as a bonus.

Seems like an interesting concept with a lot of details to work out, but on the surface should add revenue and interest to the league. Feels pretty win/win for everyone.

I like the idea. probably will do a one off game (like fa cup for any football fans) and possibly gives a break within the season.
Maybe minimises preseason games and gives every team to try and win something every year.

why not, they can test out and see how it goes

they can always cancel it if it fails, but if players/fans like it, then it will become a good thing

Can’t help but think this is going to cause the real playoffs to lose some luster. NBA is going full on spectacle mode with every move that’s been made by Silver

I like the play in but i don't understand the point of the in season tournament.
The champion's league in soccer has a big draw that NBA can't replicate. It gives you the unique opportunity to watch the top teams from different leagues against each other. You can't watch Real Madrid vs Man City without the champion's league. There is no way for the NBA to replicate this. Who wants to watch the Lakers beat up on Beijing tigers.

Naked cash grab that has no natural value to NBA player legacies so they have to bribe players to give a crap. I can't understand what other NBA fans find appealing about this pointless exercise. We already have a tournament: it's called the playoffs and it lasts two months, and we don't have to bribe players to get them to care.

I'm cool with it as a fan. Just not sure the players need extra wear and tear in the middle of the season.

I do agree, but many would disagree with us.
I don't care for the majority of the decisions Silver has made but he and the rest have the league have benefited greatly.

All Silver is doing is adding pointless gimmicks.

Even the play-in was a gimmick. It was only somewhat interesting because of the unlikely Lakers vs Warriors game. Instead of just making it a fun 1 game playoff between the 8th vs 9th seed (like the MLB does with two wild card teams), they had to get a 10th seed involved and 7th seed?

Just more annoying gimmicks I really don’t care for.

Friendly reminder: David Stern would never do any of these "ideas".

Me too lol… the only thing I’d add is adding some international players if we could get the clearances.

great idea except there will be even more injuries in the actual playoffs. additional rest time must be baked in.
