I think the best iso players are the ones who command double and triple teaming against them.
So, every great player in every position is one of the best iso players.
Who is the best one of them? Maybe the one with the lowest USG and the higher FG%. I really don't know :D

Maybe in top 10 but certainly not the best of all time.

In no order players I would take over him:

Jordan
Durant
Harden
Curry
Wilt
West
Robertson
KAJ
Dantley

The reason why Kobe's shots are difficult is that he insists on attempting a high volume of shots despite not being as athletic as Jordan or AI or Nique. When those guys attempt a lot of shots they make it look easier, because they are more athletic and can create space easier. Kobe has to force things more in order to get up his 20 or 30 shots, because he's not as athletic (but he is athletic compared to the average player obviously).
druggas wrote:You must have never seen him play.

Did you ever see Michael Jordan play in the 1980s? Kobe was never even close to 80s Jordan level of athleticism.
And AI was always more athletic than Kobe, it wasn't even close, and Nique was other-worldly (even his jump shot was athletic).

Tl;dw, Kobe takes tough shots, has lower efficiency

However, in the playoffs, defenses gameplan to give him these low-PPP shots, he makes them anyway because he trains like a madman, he's one of the few players ever that maintains/improves his impact from the regular season

To put it in a modern NBA context, imagine if shots at the rim and the 3pt line were taken away (i.e. the best shots PPP-wise), Kobe still wrecks this defense because his midrange and post-game is THE counter to Moreyball at (comparatively elite) efficiency and volume.

He was, in a sense, the ultimate versatile utility scorer playmaker.

Isnt it a shame everything you typed up is undeniable but trolls on this board will completely ignore it and post from their feelings.

Definitely one of a handful of names that could viably hold that title. Some of these other names mentioned don't have the scoring versatility or volume to be in this convo.

This shouldn't be that controversial to say. Kobe is one of the most skilled players of all time.

Iso-play only, I'm taking Kobe over anyone in today's game. Rather easily. Today's players have luxuries that you didn't have 10 years ago, such as superior floor spacing, screen setting on steroids and better protection for the offensive player where you basically can't breathe on anyone with the ball.

Doesn't fit the agenda.

That stat doesn't seem remotely possible. Kobe's peak offensive rating was 115 which would mean he wasn't just better in ISO but way better in ISO...where in his offense could he possibly have made up the rest? And doing it when he played? Add in the laker's peaked around a 113 offense under Kobe, so again, if they were getting 7 points per 100 more off Kobe in iso....why didn't they spam that?

Opening up the court for your teammates doesn't help if you still take shots like this.

That was him repeatedly in the 2008 NBA Finals. It was painful watching him repeatedly try to force himself on the defence. The great iso players exploited what the defence gave them.

Probably. It isn't conclusive with great efficiency players like Curry Durant and of course Michael Jordan. Hell even Dirk in his era might give him a run for his money

Career relative TS:

Larry Bird (over 13 seasons): +2.5
Kobe Bryant (over twenty seasons): +1.9

Guess Bird wasn't a winning player.

Stop it.

Luka doesn't have a single season that's even remotely close to peak Kobe in terms of isolation. Check the synergy stats. "Exceedingly difficult" lol.

Top 5 1v1 player for sure but I'd rank Jordan (OG Kobe) and Durant over him.

Durant is pretty much the platinum standard for iso scoring. What he lacks in versatility he makes up for in efficiency via his unstoppable jumpshot.

Jordan was just a much better version of Kobe in isolation.
