It’s messed up Curry is the poster boy of this new rule being that he’s the first to experience it lol. The Curry haters will remember this lol.

No, no. I liked it when a player from my team was playing good defense for 23 seconds of a play and then some shooter would lean into him and get the foul call before the clock expired. That made the game the fun.

I want to say "It's about time!" but the refs will likely revert to their old ways at some point. It's like when the NBA introduced fines for flopping. It lasted about four days and then after that, the fines became a rarity.

It's about time, this rule should have been changed 3+ years ago.

It was a thing of beauty watching Curry jump up and move into the defender jumping up trying to block the shot and they called it an offensive foul.

I think it will stick longer, first off flopping is harder to identify and fines are a bigger deal, this is a change to make the game way better. We saw the continuation rules adjusted and they are still being enforced by the new rules. I also think the flopping thing is a bit overblown outside of a few players it rarely happens.

**** they also modified the old rip through move and made it a foul on the floor no matter what.

Overall this is a good change, but how are in-the-flow pump fakes going to be officiated? Will those no longer be called either?

There is a certain degree of skill in pump faking (think Kobe on the block)...

Well the announcer saying "not this year" doesn't tell us anything about how these situations will be officiated, it was one play and it's not the season yet, though I'd love to see this continue. Most likely jumping into players won't get a foul call but a pump fake that draws the player into the shooter will still get a call. Even if it doesn't get called enough, though, it's still better than the alternative. I think in general not calling enough fouls still produces a better product than calling too many, as long as refs don't miss obvious fouls.

Those will still be called. Whats key in these new rules is the unnatural movement portion, and leaning into a player who was NOT going to land on the opposing player, amd had a clear path to the ground before the offensive player jumped into them.

Pump fakes, and a player biting is a different ball of wax.

This will mostly stop the horsecrap that happens at the 3-point line. If it is enforced properly, you will see a decline in 3-point percentages across the league. Defensive players will slowly learn they can close out more effectively without worrying about getting called for an absurd foul anymore.
