Rozier also has a sprained ankle so Bouk might get a lot of meaningful minutes early. He's a gifted scorer and passer but his 3 ball needs work

Except Barnes isn’t an underrated offensive player. Probably overrated because while he’s atheltic and can handle and pass, he can’t shoot to save his life right now. It’s WIP. Very Simmons-like but not as good yet.

I’m excited for his future too but a lot of Raps fans are getting ahead of themselves at this point.

100% he can't shoot. But as basketball fans we should know theres more to the game than that, especially early on when trying to earn minutes with your coach. He won't be a good scorer this year, but I'm nearly positive either he or Mobley will lead ALL rookies in impact stats. Barnes just knows how to lead an offense and get reb/assist/stls/blks with minimum turnovers. If Barnes can average 10ppg while continuing to be a beast in other categories I'd consider that a win.

I'll 100% take "Simmons-lite but not as good yet" except more of a willing shooter as rookie any day of the week.

No argument about anything you wrote here, but without a jumper defenses aren’t going to allow him to get to the rim and use his passing. He’ll be a fullcourt threat snd that’s about it.

I disagree with you here.

While Scottie has obvious work to do with his shooting, he can definitely be useful in the half-court in a plethora of ways. He directs traffic much like Marc Gasol did in his time with us. He also gives the raptors another reliable ball handler in the half-court; granted I would not want the ball to be stopped the moment it touches his hands, but his movements with the ball often times results in some form of offense being generated. We haven't seen him roll to the basket much, but I'm sure we will see elements of this during the season. For a rookie, he doesn't really get his game sped up by the defense, usually plays within himself. These are all notable skills that will allow him to be useful in half-court basketball.

Kids going to make mistakes, but I think you're a little too dismissive on what he can provide right now.

Yeah he can go off, didn't he have a few 40 point games in college then got slowed down by a injury I believe.

You do realize those are still poor FT% numbers right? The league average was 77.8% last season. Improvement is encouraging, even though you cherry picked 7 poor games to make some sort of point. but the conversation was about where his shooting is at today, not 2 years from now.

But thanks for helping prove my post instead of yours. You’re trying way to hard on this bud, you’re obsessed at this point. We disagree and I really don’t respect your opinions so Bye and Good luck to you.

we both know there's a world of difference projecting Scottie's future as a shooter on draft day if he's called a "75% free throw shooter" instead of a "60% free throw shooter".

I think Draymond is the best example here. Green can't shoot at all but he's still so useful due to his passing and energy. The warriors offense is notably better when Green is on the floor.

This sounds about right at this moment, although some posters have convinced themselves he’s already a good shooter. Draymond once scored 35 points in game 7 of thr finals, hit everything he looked at, that doesn’t mean people think he’s a good shooter.

Pretty insane draft. Almost every lottery pick looks like they will have a major role early this season.

Won't win ROY, but someone who could sneak onto the rookie ladder by the end of the year is Leandro Bolmaro in Minnesota. This is the third piece of the Timberwolves draft a season ago that also netted Edwards and McDaniels.

So Scottie Barnes Preseason stats,

9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.2 blocks.

Not too shabby at all.

OKC copped a lot of flack for Giddey.

They are the ones laughing now.

Giddey is a real darkhorse to run away with it imo.

Grown a couple of cms and looks to have put on 10 pounds of solid mass (Legs, torso different). Which isn’t unusual for a kid that’s still growing physically and with gym time.

What was once a concern now is not just a positive but a huge advantage.

NBA has the scoring tax inflation. Could very much be Lamelo 2.0 this year.

Very excited for him. Giddey 4 Giddey

God Squad wrote:Since Suggs isn't getting any love in this thread I want to give him some credit. I watched the Celtics(best game) and Spurs game and came away very underwhelmed in certain factors such as handle(is he even a pg?) and jumper. But Suggs is going to be a terror defensively for guards. He just knows how to use his body to make it difficult for them. He also shows an innate ability to get blocks around the rim, be in man or help defense. He's going to be a crazy good defender in the league me thinks.

He had like two blocks at the rim on Tatum! It just sucks that I came away more impressed with Mo Bamba than Suggs from those games. I think Mo's going to have a huge year with Vuc gone.

Its early, but I think Franz was a bad or suspect pick at 8. Magic need scoring so I probably would have gone Bouk.

Suggs looked fantastic in summer league but preseason he has definitely looked average accept his defense. The Franz thing worries me more though, he was a soph but looks lost out there. I totally get why they drafted a player like him with all the guards we currently have but as it stands he looks BAD out there.

Did not think Bolmaro had that kind of defensive awareness. The guy can flip his hips so well for someone his height. I am making lazy comparisons today, but at least on defense he reminds me of Manu a bit. Not as twitched up athletically, but a smart, pest who knows how to play angles tremendously well.

It's Magic and Scottie Pippen I think. At least that's what I remember who are his inspirations.
