Wait so why aren't Simmons and Kyrie being traded for each other?

Post#1 » by RoxSteady » Thu Oct 14, 2021 1:19 pm

I know, I know, it's not going to happen. But maybe it should!

Each team loses its headache and gives another star a fresh start.

Ben gets lauded for his D; has a chance to become a Nets legend.

Kyrie gives Philly a point guard who can shoot and competes for another title. Kyrie gets paid; plays in arena that's probably closer to his home town when you factor in traffic. I guess Philly does risk losing Kyrie for nothing or having him come in pissed off. He won't play with his best friend. But in a way he "wins," for getting to stand his ground. Maybe you still lose him in a playoff series against NY, BK, L.A. It's high risk, high reward with Kyrie. Like Terrell Owens. But they loved Terrell Owens in Philly. OK I'm rambling.

Nets and Sixers get to be possibly the two favorites in the league; may the best team win!

Because Sixers are smart enough to not take that mad rebel, zen master wannabe.

Because Kyrie cannot be trusted. Never know what you'll get with him.

He's got a PO. I actually wonder if Miami/Dallas (Florida/Texas, very unlikely to get a vaccine mandate) would look into a S&T for him. Ya, he's Kyrie and mercurial af, but it's rare a talent like him is available. I wonder if they'd put up with the baggage

If I were Philly, I would consider swapping him for Tobias Harris, not for Ben Simmons

I acknowledged that, cranky pants. So was Kawhi in Toronto as was PG in OKC.

As one poster eloquently put it in the Knicks forum, Ben Simmons doesn’t like taking shots on and off the court.

If Kyrie got extended, I wouldn't be surprised if this eventually happens. The story has been dismissed/smothered for now. But Kyrie might look mighty appealing when Morey realizes how long he might have to wait for Dame/Beal to become available (the whole season). Kyrie and Embiid are a very good fit. Kyrie's stock is in toxic flames, but Morey is the star hungriest GM ever, and Kyrie is a star.

I think what really complicates this is Kyrie's player option for 2023. Kyrie is too unpredictable for a GM to feel comfortable trading for him in the last year of his contract. Kyrie could walk off into the desert to film a reality tv show about his spiritual journey on the first day of the NBA finals and none of us would be that surprised. He say something like "this is bigger than basketball. Basketball is an illusion" and we'd all be like woah bro that is deep.

I actually made that exact joke on Twitter not having seen the post you're talking about.

One can't shoot to save his life, and the other believes he'll fall off the earth when he visits his home in Australia.

Because adding Kyrie to the 76ers does not help them.

Even assuming he doesn't retire, Kyrie is just a huge headache and distraction. It's been this way throughout his career. He's an all-time great scorer, but has never been a reliable show each game day (injuries...and other things), and he's always been prone to saying bull that either poisons the locker room or distracts the team from what should be their common goal of trying to win each day. With KD or Lebron to help him focus? Probably worth it still--though note that Kyrie is still not playing for the Nets even with KD there. Without one of those two? Not worth the bother, imo.

Kyrie has moved from eccentric to bonkers. Too bad. As an athlete, he would be a perfect fit for Embiid. Then again, as an athlete he convinced KD to join forces for a potentially potent partnership, that now looks tattered. Harden’s comments are telling.

If Irving signed an extension I could see it being a good move for both teams. Philly already watched Butler walk in FA I could see them being nervous about adding another headcase like Irving. If he opts out in the offseason and it's just embiid/Harris left their window will have closed.

Simmons is apparently also unvaxxed according to Ramona Shelbourne I believe. So he wouldn’t even be able to play BK home games himself

Simmons isn't vaccinated either so he can't be traded to LA, NY, or Golden State and play in home games there.

Based on the timeline of his availability after returning to the team, people have speculated that Ben Simmons is also not vaccinated.
