I am sick and tired of all the fatphobia surrounding Zion Williamson

Post#1 » by Lakers LeBron » Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:26 pm

There has been a lot of talk about Zion now weighing over 300 pounds and a lot of slurs pointed his way, including the o**** word and I'm here to say, "so what?" There is nothing wrong with being a full sized person. It is not a personal or moral failing to weigh over 300 pounds and it is certainly not an athletic failure to be that size. The greatest athletes in human history have always been much larger than the average person. Just sticking to basketball, did you know that Wilt Chamberlain weighed more than 300 pounds later in his career?

So I challenge RealGM, right here, right now. Name a great athlete under 300 pounds and I will name an even greater athlete who weighed more than 300 pounds.

Couple of names come to mind. Lakers draft pick Andrew Bynum was really out of shape and his career largely a waste. Lakers draft pick Marc Gasol was so fat they gave up on him and threw him into a trade before even playing a game. Lakers pick Julius Randle really struggled with his weight in LA but turned into a superstar after leaving and getting into shape.

And off course there's Shaq, who really should have delivered 2-3 more rings for LA if he stayed in shape.

Stupid thread

Zion has the talent and abilities to be one of the best players EVER to play the game but the real dilemma for him seems to be big mac or whopper?

Yeah i think its fair to say he needs to get himself in better basketball shape if he wants a chance at reaching his full potential. A healthy in shape Zion might be one of the most physically gifted athletes to ever walk this earth....

Never heard of him. Seems like a talented guy but as an athlete I just don't think he can compete with the great Yamamotoyama Ryūta of Japan.

Wilt Chamberlain was also 7 inches taller than Zion, that makes a difference.

If Zion was fully healthy, I'm sure people would agree there's nothing wrong with being a full sized person.

The issue is, Zion has sustained 5 lower extremity injuries and he's only 21 years old, it is clearly negatively impacting his career.

This is a woke parody thread, right?

If so, well done. If not, backs out of thread slowly.

I don't think anyone is judging Zion's weight from a fat-phobic perspective. This is from the perspective of sports, and how his weight could affect his performance/longevity/etc. Same way I don't think anyone is body shaming Brandon Ingram when they say that he is too skinny.

This is a simple fact....weight affects stamina, longevity, durability, strength etc. Obviously there are different levels to the impact it has on each of those factors, but I don't think anyone can argue that it doesn't affect the performance and career of an athlete.

What's next?

"I'm getting sick and tired of the blatant ageism in basketball. There are only 19 players over the age of 35 in the league. Tom Brady just won a superbowl at the age of 43. Name me one athlete under the age of 35 and I'll name you a better one older than 35 "

All of us non Pelicans or non-General NBA fans..more team specific fans don't mind at all that Zion is over 300 lbs. I think it's great as long as he's happy. That's all that matters.

What is the "O" word? Obese? Is that offensive? I must be missing something.

This is clearly not a serious thread, but I do have an actual question.

Why do people act like heart disease isn't the #1 cause of death in the US?

Uh, being overweight isn't a "how you look" thing. It's a "how long are you gonna live" thing.

There is a difference between weight and fat. Zion has a high body mass index, but his body fat is probably around only 14-15%.
