JJ Redick: “Players from the 50s, 60s, 70s could not play in today’s NBA”

Post#1 » by draftnightsuit » Fri Oct 29, 2021 10:55 pm

He’s 100% correct but he should’ve added the 80s and 90s to the list.

This is such a lazy take on both sides. Given time to adjust I'm sure players would adjust to any era.

Imo it would be a much more difficult adjustment for current guys to play in the early era with no three point shot, no superstar ref BS, carry and traveling actually being called, etc.

this is controversial? almost all the centers are gone, almost all the small pgs are gone. the power forwards are gone. Duh.

Michael Jordan said the same thing in the late 80s. His quote about that is in The Jordan Rules.

The problem was that Jordan's reasoning now applies to his generation versus today.

well.

if in over a period of 50 years or a half century, athletes in a sport is not better, then there is a problem with human kind.

wanna know how long 50years is....

nonetheless. literally EVERY player today could not take one single dribble without being called for a turnover, and a team today would make 50 if not more TO's in one game. so there's that. palming the ball is like breathing air....they jus do it unconsciously! jj is dumb to even bring this up. but now he's got a big time show and he needs more eyes and ears than when he was podcasting last year. jj and players like him would not be in the nba if not for the 3

If this were coming from Kevin Durant, LeBron James - ok. Maybe I'd perk my ears up a little, (probably not, but still). JJ Redick? I give zero ****

50 years ago, society was at a very different place (to put it mildly)…and players were often treated like shat. Bill Russell’s relationship with Boston comes to mind.

On one hand he’s right. There were players who only used one hand to dribble even with those dribbling rules. On the other hand J.J, would have no role pre-merger because there is no 3pt line. He wouldn’t be able to make the league because his role didn’t exist in the 70’s.

Well yeah, humans have reached athletic highs that didn't exist back then. The league is full of genetic freaks. This can be said for most sports. Also the rewards of playing are higher than they've ever been, so there is a bigger pool of players trying to make it to the pros.

This is just JJ trying to get his name out there as a talking head.

A lot probably wouldn't, but I dont like this debate. Show some humility cause in 50 years, nosebleeds will say the same thing about you. Oh look, in 2020 a slow white center who cant even dunk was MVP rofl, none of 2020 guys could play in a league today. You know this argument will pop up and we will be spinning in our graves.

Obvious statement is obvious.

Who cares? JJ Redick can't even play in today's NBA.

I was never a fan of JJ Redick, but he was making a more thoughtful point:

“I don’t want to be that guy in 10 or 20 years from now is sh***ing on players in 2044”.

It’s obvious NBA players from the future evolve, and comparing generations apart seems ridiculous in time as the rules change.

That is rich coming from JJ. Would love to see how he would go in the starting unit from the 60’s.

His style has never been more beneficial for today not past.

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I’d rather new/older players actually name names. That would be a better and more realistic topic.

There’s three centers in the 90’s that would destroy it right now. But they are ATG

Any ATG can play in any era imo.

You’d have is Russell the next Giannis if he come into this league

You’d have is Wilt the GOAT before halfway into his rookie season lol.

A
Why should they? Old heads routinely crap on today’s players.
