How come people talk about Ray Allen but not Michael Redd?

Post#1 » by Shock Defeat » Thu Nov 4, 2021 11:16 pm

Ray Allen is a great player people say would be more dominant in this era but how come no one talks about Michael Redd who was from the same era and at his peak before injuries was a better scorer than Ray Allen?

Does Michael Redd not get the proper respect and notoriety that he deserves?

injuries really derailed him, sucks. he is a great guy as well. I dm'd him to ask a question about his shot and he just answered me and had a whole convo like a regular person.

Because he wasn't as good and was just seen as a bootlegged facsimile of Allen.

But I liked him a lot and it would be cool to see him talked about more.

I remember years ago looking over Michael Redd's raw scoring numbers before I really understood anything about stats and being amazed he wasn't an all-star more than once. And then I dove more into his other numbers and realized he didn't really add much else beyond scoring a lot at decent efficiency. And those Bucks teams of that time were not very good. Two combined playoff game wins in the six years he scored 20+ PPG.

Ray Allen is a legend, one of the most clutch players of all time
Michael Redd is a regular season guy who had like 2 decent seasons on losing teams

Mainly because Ray was better, and then add that injuries derailed the later part of Redd's career and took away longevity, there's no reason he should be mentioned as much as Ray.

I think it's because he played in bad Bucks teams, particularly when he was at his peak. Ray didn't get as much attention either until the surprise Sonic years where he turned heads, but especially on the Celtics and Heat teams.

If he was in a bigger market or had better team success, I think he would have been more popular as he was fun to watch.

Redd made the fatal mistake of signing with a terrible organization rather than taking a cheaper deal to join LeBron.

Ray Allen was a 3x All Star on the Bucks...

I usually applaud stars who stay with their teams but in this case, your probably right. Redd was a star but definitely not good enough to be a 1st option on a championship team. If he joined Lebron in Cleveland, they may have won a championship and that could have changed history considering Lebron may never go to Miami. Fun to think about.

Same reason people talk about Kevin Garnett and not Chris Bosh.

Yes I know. Ray was always a good player on the Bucks with Cassell, Allen and Big Dog. That team was fun and I was often rooting for them back then. I'm moreso talking about popularity, particularly with the general population. He had his best years with the Sonics but really gained the most popularity with the Celtics and Heat.

Ray Allen was just a substantially better player than Redd.

Michael Redd was NOT as good as Ray Allen. When Allen played on the Bucks he was damn good, he was a good dunker, and he was good on the Sonics too. The Bucks would have gone to the finals if they didn't lose to the Sixers...

Ray Allen was just better than Michael Redd and had a much longer prime. Allen did more than just score and also played a key role on multiple championship teams. What exactly are the highlight moments of Redd's career?

Ray Allen had a much longer career and was a more well-rounded player.

Redd was an elite shooter, but he didn't pass and was an awful defender.

I loved Michael Redd. I remember trying to get him on my fantasy team every year.

Op should have left Ray Allen's name out of the thread though.
