Derrick Rose is very good

Post#1 » by GeorgeMarcus » Sat Nov 6, 2021 2:01 am

I never thought I'd say that again after all his injuries and bouncing from team to team, but man is it true. Doesn't matter what type of stats you prefer, they will certainly reflect well on him in the last ~1.5 years. It's early but he has to be the front runner for 6MOY this season. His redemption arc is one of the most surprising and impressive I've seen.

Has any modern day guard fallen from such a height, experienced such low lows and emerged as a very good player on a playoff team?

Really wanted the Mavs to pick him up this offseason. He'd be perfect as a release valve alongside Luka and to run the team when he's on the bench. He's reinvented his three point shot too.

Yeah, he is actually. Specifically for them, that team falls into these long two's and contested 3's all too often, and he goes into attack mode to bring them out of it. He'll never be a "great" player again, but he's accepted a role and exceling in it. I was never a D Rose guy, but I give him a lot of credit for that and he's making me a fan.

Still can get to the basket at will. His mid range is nasty and has improved his 3pt shot. All while accepting a 6man role and not complaining. Glad he's playing well after a lot of people were making fun of him and telling him to retire.

Potentially weird take but is D Rose potentially the best point guard to ever come off the bench? He cooks a lot of starters
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Hard to think of one. He’s as much or more of an impact player depending on the metrics one uses than he ever has been playing a completely different game.

+34, +31, +10, +8, +7, +7…Knicks only outscored in two games while he was on court (-1, and -2). It’s really wild how much of an impact he’s making.

Bill Walton comes to mind. In his third year (76-77) in the NBA he won a championship (also finals MVP). The next year he was league MVP. Then injuries basically took him out for years. In 1986 he's traded to the Celtics and wins 6th man of the year (and his 2nd championship).

Grant Hill is another one. He was an All-Star 6 times out of his first 7 years in the league. Then injuries hit and most people thought he was done (he missed the entire 2003-04 season). He came back and was a productive player for the Suns (in 2010 they went to the Western Conference Finals).

He was actually really good for Detroit. I couldn't believe no one would give a late first for him for a playoff run last year.

Derrick Rose has really adapted well in this latter part of his career. With that said I think Carmelo Anthony is the frontrunner for 6MOTY at the moment. Carmelo is averaging 17 pts 4 reb and basically 1 stl 1 blk and shooting 50% from field and +50% from 3, making 3.6 3 pointers per game (obviously his percentages will drop though).

I know it's over a much shorter time frame, but CP3 went from being called the worst contract in the league to top 15, even top 10 player again and close to a ring.

Remember for a year or two, the Suns had KJ, Nash, and Kidd. Whichever of those three was on the bench (Nash I believe) is arguably better than D Rose although I guess you could say Rose has a solid argument vs all three.

Way better than Kemba. Dont be fooled by him coming off the bench. Manu came off the bench for some scrub Sgs that couldnt tie his shoes either.
