Everyone gets cooked by Curry. He still played him very well.

Most of these honors and awards the league comes up with are artificial and arbitrary.

I have no doubt that Curry is key to making the Warriors the current number one rated defense in the league but it's not due to the commonly accepted criteria. Curry's critics can poke at his defensive credentials all they want but if the Warriors finish the season rated number one in defense again, Curry would have been on more number one rated defensive teams than nearly all of his peers.

How refs officiated in years past:

Iguodala makes a clean swipe at the ball = clean steal
Curry makes a clean swipe at the ball = defensive foul

This season I'm noticing refs aren't calling fouls on those Curry steals anymore. It means his reputation as a defender is starting to develop. Back then, refs would call a foul because Steph wasn't known as a defender so refs assume he must have fouled in order to get the steal... meanwhile a guy like Iggy makes that same defensive play and the refs know it's clean simply because of Iggy's rep as a defender.

It all depends on what matters to you when it comes to defense.

An example: Curry is leading Caruso is Drtg & DWS. Caruso has him in DBPM though. Which matters most?

This is on top of Curry being #6 in usage whereas a lot of the all-defensive players mentioned here don't crack the top 25. You have to imagine Curry would improve if he wasn't asked to be an MVP level offensive player every night.

He likely will not make it but he deserves to be included in the convo this year.

Yes, Caruso caused a minor disturbance that did not result in a turnover on Curry's way to scoring 40 points on 62.5% FG & 52.9% from 3pt in 3 quarters when CHI threw in the towel.

Everyone gets cooked by Curry but that was arguably his best game of the year.

But guys like Caruso are assigned to guard the other team's best players. If Curry is assigned to do that and not having Draymond to cover the ground, do you think he will still have the same numbers?

How much of that was on Caruso? He played 25 minutes and came off the bench... pretty fair to assume he played a good amount of minutes with the second unit when Curry want in the game.. Steph btw played 34 minutes that game.

Nto sure how you can make the argument that AC was cooked by Curry... the whole team was cooked by Curry.

There’s been half a dozen threads on how amazing Lonzo and Caruso are at defense lately.

Who else would they be defending for CHI? You’re not putting Lavine or DD on him.

Conversely, teams often times try and screen their best player onto Curry thinking they’ll have a size advantage at least. It literally happens dozens of times a game v certain teams. You’d be surprised how often Curry ends being the main defender on a top tier perimeter player.

I will say GSW does tend to motion over support in Looney or Dray behind him to prevent east drives but for his stats & my eye test indicate he still holds his own.

In what specific play types? The underlined is rather vague.

As of this post on basketball-reference.com he’s the 3rd best rated guard for drtg behind behind Gary Payton 2 and miles mcbride (in 8 total minutes).

He’s 3rd overall in DWS behind Gobert & Giannis.

He’s the 4th guard in DBPM behind Caruso, Smart & Dejounte Murray.

And here’s a good breakdown by Sports illustrated. I’d consider a neutral site.

dont worry. bob took my exposed curry thread seriously and got multiple all defensive players and wont trade green at any cost now that klay is exposed soon. warriors are a strong defensive team even if opponent destroys 30 pt on curry they have dogs in wiggins too. now curry can hide behind them and not sweat getting ankle broken by ja.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.
