Uh oh...ice trae staring at a 50,40,90 with 26 ppg (8th in nba), 9.2 assist (2nd in nba), with a per of 25 (8th in nba) and the hawks winning....and we KNOW he a winner in playoffs and and big game hunter...

I think the young man has decided to play in the reg season and if he keeps this up he will be battling Jimmy and Lebron or whomever else shows up for the 5th all nba 1st team spot

Why doesn’t he get more love here with these numbers?

Dude didn't even make the allstar team last year so it seems the whole NBA world does not like Trae.

As for me, I love the guy and think he's an elite talent. Don't be shocked when he enters the top 5 in the NBA in a few years.

Ice Trae seems like an awful nickname to me

Is that a legit name people are trying to stick him with?

Dunno, Trae's awesome and sort of a genius game but he hasn't reached his breakthrough point yet. He's actually shooting less efficiently and producing less than his previous years, and that's after a recent hot streak has bumped up his #s a lot. Dude is a production machine but he's always been dogged by some inconsistent efficiency, and he hasn't put together that brilliant, consistent run yet to put himself in the convo for a MVP guy. Seems like it could happen at any point but he's had a long-standing pattern of hot and cold streaks, and his game is reliant on pretty high difficulty shooting so it's hard to pencil him for that leap just yet.

(Also for all the hype his NYK series got, he had a pretty meh performance in the PO against the Sixers (shot 39% overall and 32% from deep), same with MIL too though he was hobbled by injuries there. Again I think we need to let him have that overall dominant performance before slotting him in the top tier of players.)

I think it suits him perfectly

The amount of hate he got in the other topic was so unnecessary. I doubt people will give him his props here without some kind backhanded compliment but he should clearly be a all star this year

Because they were much much worse (both personal and team numbers) up until now. And i wouldn't say he is close to 50/40/90 either.

He's rebounded nicely to his bad start, he's having career highs in shooting across the board atm.

He's averaging the same PPG as last year despite shooting 3.2 less FTs a game.

Credit to the guy.

What are you referring to? His true shooting percentage has always been well above average (58%) in all seasons except his first.

STATS
Regular Season

GP MIN FG% 3P% FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS
20 33.5 46.5 38.6 90.0 3.6 9.2 0.1 0.9 1.7 3.9 25.6

Trae's having his best season from an effective field goal and raw box score stand point. By any catchall offensive metrics, he's been pretty high the past few seasons.

If you want to attempt to hate on Trae, the offense isn't where it's at. He had an injured shoulder in the Philly series and played injured in his last game of the Bucks series. Those both dropped his percentages.

Edit: He can consistently rely on his floater and now midrange shot this season thus far which is why you're seeing his percentages improve. He's choosing his three point attempts much more carefully and actually is shooting the highest in the NBA on off the dribble threes. I need to find the tweet to back this up.

I agree with the OP. If he continues at this pace, leveling up to players like AD, Butler, and Lebron should be a given. The man has been on fire all of November.

13 games, 27.0 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 8.8 assist per game. .481/.416/.905 and a TS% of .616.

Trae said he worked on his midrange game in the off season and that is showing up in his FG% numbers. He has to be one of the hardest working players in the league during the off season.

people are still too hung up on the Doncic thing even though Trae has been much better than him this year

if anything we need a thread about how Luka hasn't really improved in 3 years and is falling well short of the trajectory most people on this board assigned him

Tbh Docnic is probably a victim of his own success, he straight up doesn't need to work as hard to get what he wants and came in the league as an All Star.

Trae on the other hand has clear physical limitations and needs to work harder to surpass that.

Docnic obviously has the higher ceiling, but one wonders if he feels the need to improve on his already very skilled game.

That's not true. Trae had a slow start in his first 8 games. In 5 of those 8 games, he was below average to start the season. The Hawks were 4-4 during that span.

He's been pretty fantastic since then, but the team is 7-6. Alot of that is due to scheduling, team injuries, and adjusting to the new season.

It's funny how Trae has to clear hurdles other young big name players don't have to jump through. I'm referring to Ja, Luka and Tatum.

That’s what Trae puts in daily.

Superstar.

The end.

My brother told me Isaiah stewart was called beef stew, so I started calling him "Ice (short for Isaiah) Stew (short for Stewart)". Find me a worse nickname than Ice Stew.

Credit to Trae for taking back some of what the refs have taken away from him.

Solid post and here is my short takes. Ja has that Jordan like athletic/dunking ability that everyone loves. Doncic is the great white hope. Tatum is Boston's love child with ESPN headquarters just around the corner and due south ...

Every time Trae hits from the logo, Luka gains half a pound. It's science.

Anyone else noticing how Trae is finishing around the rim? Looks like he's worked on his layup package in the off season too. I don't think I've ever seen him finish high off the glass with his left hand before this season.

Yeah, he's been playing superbly. When you average 25ppg and still dish out about 9 assists per game, you're entering the superstar territory. I'd say he's been the second-best PG in the league this season, after Steph.
