If you go back to his last three teams. Fans of Dallas New York and Brooklyn will be the first to tell you that he is beyond washed up

He appears to have a lot of friends around the league. When guys like LeBron and Durant want somebody, and that somebody is a vet minimum guy, they typically get it.

Either didn't do the homework on this one or they grew too confident in their ability to redeem washed up guys. Late career redemptions only work if the player is high motor and/or BBIQ. There's nothing to revive here.

They thought he could still play the 2019-2020 JaVale McGee role, which he is not capable of doing. When Ariza is back I suspect DJ will be glued to the bench. Gasol was fairly washed as well but I wish they could have convinced him to stay, he at least fits better with the starters.

...or a 40 million over 4 years guy.

To begin with, there are not many good remaining Centers in the FA market. Big names like Cousins and Baynes are also washed.

The better options would be Biyombo, Marquese Chriss and Norvell Pelle. Jahill Okafor would be a more offensive option.

I think any option is better than DeAndre. But vets trust another vet. Furthermore, vets usually are in denial about their own aging process.

First, they expected to have Gasol back. By the time he retired many of the more interesting vet min center options had already signed elsewhere (Bjelica for example would certainly have been a better fit as a stretch-5 option but was already off the market by the time Gasol officially decided no to come back.

Second, Jordan is famous, a former star, and friends with many in the league. All of which were important to the Lakers.

In finance, we refer to this as not doing your due diligence.

The problem is his role, not whether they should’ve signed him or not. As a vet min player he’d be fine if he just sat on the bench all game, only playing due to blowouts, foul trouble, or injuries. If he has that role no one would care since he’s just a vet min player.

Problem is he actually plays and even starts.

Cousins and Deandre are probably equally washed on defense, but at least Boogie can space the floor on offense. I would 1000% rather see Cousins out there over Jordan.

This argument might hold water if he was given too big a role for real. But he's averaging 14 minutes per game, putting him at 12th in playing time. For a team that hasn't got many bigs, that's as little as it gets. Signing him at all was a mistake, no two ways about it.

Pretty sure DNP- coach’s decision is a little as it gets. I have no idea why anyone would say someone playing over a quarter of a game on a nightly basis is “as little as it gets”

Because AD keeps shying away from playing proper center and Dwight Howard is equally washed as Deandre? Who else do you think is gonna play center for the Lakers? But don't let facts get in the way of your smilies that make any argument great.

They have an open roster spot, nothing is stopping them from signing someone else. Again the problem isn’t that they signed DeAndre, it’s that they’re giving him a role bigger than 0 rotation minutes. I don’t really know what argument you’re trying to get into that has you so flustered about this
