Is JJ Redick the Batman to Stephen A’s Joker?

Watching this develop recently has been hilarious. I knew JJ would be great in media, and boy has he been. He’s basically ruffled the feathers of Stephen A with facts. Stephen A as usual tries his sensationalism and overall crazy takes. Is JJ the Batman we needed on this show? Should he get the gig?

Which is why they'll stop having him on the show lol. It was easy to overtalk and overlook what Max was saying because in SAS's eyes he's not an athlete and has never covered the NBA (and the fact he's also white but that's a whole other discussion). Redick is a guy who just recently left the league, went to Duke and played under Coach K, and is still highly respected by his peers. He's got the pedigree to talk hoops. Also Redick doesn't come across like some of the other ex-players who are terrible on TV and other than shouting and being an ex-NBAer don't really know how to elaborate the points they make. The fact that Redick can dismiss SAS everytime cause he never played in the league and make him look really dumb on NBA talk, which he feels is his specialty means that SAS won't want him as a permanent fixture on the show for long.

Redick is a breath of fresh air. The only NBA commentators worth a damn on ESPN are him, Tim Legler, Jay Williams and Michael Wilbon

Hah poor JJ... He is trying to have an actual conversation of basketball, and he seems completely dumbfounded by what Stephen A is blabbering. Like they forgot to tell him the script before the show, that only stupid takes that generate views are allowed

He wont be there long for it either. Or maybe they'll keep him if it gets enough ratings lol.

JJ said it was too early to say who the best team in the NBA was and stephen A actually told him on air, to the effect of, give an opinion because thats the whole point of the show...

Stephen A is trying to come off as knowledgable about the game and funny, but he cant do both becasue hes neither, so there isnt really an ideal parter for him because hes just either going to be smarter and/or funnier. Max had more articulate ideas, was funnier, had hotter takes than stephen a, and hasnt been in an ivory tower too long to understand actual people.
A former nba player telling Smith that he doesnt know what hes talking about is going to wear VERY thin on him when other guests say things like "let the basketball people talk about basketball"

He's basically giving him the Mark Cuban treatment that Skip got back in like 2012 or whatever. The over the top crap is just nonsense and people don't like it. I'm not sure why sports media keeps condoning this kind of coverage.

These days I think it's because that sort of content increases 'engagement' on social media posts.
Now whether that 'engagement' will actually manifest as viewership that can be reliably monetized is another matter. ESPN would say of course it does, I'm a bit more skeptical. People (especially Gen Z) are probably just watching 30 second clips and still never tuning into ESPN even if they recognize SAS for his takes.

Wait, wasn't JJ Redick proven wrong by Stephen A a couple of weeks ago? Ya'll love Redick because he's sounds like some of the stat geeks know it all on this board, but sometimes the eye test trumps those stats. I mean the hottest topic is how Jokic is as good as peak Shaq because of stats lol.

Have you seen the views and comments on hot take show clips on youtube or the comments and interaction they get on other social media platforms? Never underestimate the large amount of people who actually consume this type of media on a borderline obsessive basis. I used to ask all the time who actually watches some of these shows(sports and cable news) but the numbers suggest that it's a lot

Seriously how do people watch SAS? I watched the first video and I couldn't even finish it. The man lacks the ability to even express simple ideas. Coming off as an old drunk crazy man isn't a look I can understand people wanting to see. It's depressing.

No one watches SAS. He's one of ESPNs highest paid employees because ESPN is generous with their money.

Apparently his show's ratings are in the toilet since he ran off Kellerman. There's some poetic justice.

Redick gives off the vibe of a lot of former NFL players that ESPN has on to talk football, which is pretty unique for former NBA players on ESPN. In other words, he seems able to actually have a nuanced and insightful discussion

I asked how. I didn't ask if people do...I'm well aware he gets views. I'm asking what is wrong with the general public.

You never want to come across as one of those people who think you can't talk basketball unless you played professionally on these type of shows. It's not going to work.
