Did they do what they are accused of? Most Likely. Does every team do the same thing - Definitely. Should they be punished for being caught doing what every team does - Maybe (if nothing else it leads to some interesting debates). Does punishing these two teams make others teams stop doing the same thing - Hardly. Should the league change the way these deals are done since every team pretty much ignores the "rules" - Certainly.

That Heat with the most "we couldn't care less" statement. All this tampering stuff is a joke.

Chicago may not have a 2nd round pick until 2026. They may get Denver's in 2023, but that is a protected pick and the earliest that can be is the 47th pick. Teams give out 2nd round picks like they're nothing, hell they literally just sell them to teams.

If a team feels like tampering with a star player will get them the inside lane on landing them, they dont care if it costs them an extra 2nd round pick.

This would be like someone stealing a car and getting caught. And the punishment ends up being, well you know the night you stole it and it had a full tank of gas already in it, well we are fining you for that tank of gas, pay up! Ya that will stop the next person from stealing a car!

Cost of business for them if a 2nd rounder is all it costs, wont stop anyone. You can easily trade/buy for 2nd rounders if you really like a player.

If the NBA really wanted to “punish” teams for tampering, they’d take their 1st rounder. Highly doubt the Heat or Bulls feel any sort of regret after losing a pick in the 50s

My main takeaway is Thabo Sefolosha is Adrian Wojnarowski. Always posting these Woj tweets on RGM like 2 seconds after they drop. It's an honor sir.

I mean they might as well have legalized tampering with that penalty. Bulls may not get another 2nd until 2026 and Miami 2028. Glad the NBA is enforcing penalties to be enacted AFTER the teams already reap the full benefit of the players the received as a result of tampering

I generally agree. The Sixers bought the 53rd pick from Pelicans last year for 2 million though (according to Shams) and I'm seeing some other sources that's not an unreasonable estimate. A 2 million dollar fine would be a more substantial seeming punishment.

Teams will look at that consequence and decide that it's easily worth the risk to get that last piece...

Every year teams literally sign their free agents right when free agency starts.

The NBA is just waiting for another small market team to make an example out of.
