Once again, Jokic asks Embiid to 'hold my beer', 28 and 21 (and 9)

Any time Embiid puts up a good one, Jokic answers emphatically.

I said it a page or two ago, but i think overall team records and head-to-heads might have more of a say than usual in this years race considering the calibre of the three players vying for the title, and how well they're playing night in, night out

28 and 21 and 9 is dominate but 42 14 4 and 4 blocks in 33 minutes is a definitely better. It certainly isn’t a hold my beer situation lol.

When you factor in that Hernangomez was dominating and set a new career high (like Bamba) with 29/10 on 11/15 shooting, I'm not so sure it's "definitely" better. Both were incredible games though.

Drummond is god awful defensively and plays horrible drop coverage on every single play. That’s not even close to head to head bamba scored like 15 straight with Drummond in in the second quarter of that game

My point was more that you anoint Embiid after every game, without ever factoring in what others are actually doing. It's very dismissive of just how great others are this season as well.

But it's the opposite though. People feel the need to 'humble' Embiid after every game through the usage of unnecessary comparison. He dropped 42 like it was nothing and is on a ridiculous run of consistent scoring and performances. Let him have his flowers please.

Not to spoil the Embiid parade, but has anyone seen a significant decline in his defense due to the enhanced offensive load. The reason why I inquire

against the Heat, Ömer Yurtseven tied a CAREER-HIGH of 22 points (10-12) in 24 minutes of play

against the Wizards, Harrell had 18 points (6-9) in 21 minutes, and Thomas Bryant had 15 points (6-11) in 16 minutes

against the Magic, Mo Mamba had a CAREER HIGH 32 points (12-15) in 30 minutes (28 of that was in the first half on 7 threes and his previous career high was 22)

against the Spurs, Jakob Poeltl had 25 points on 11-16 shooting (career high is 27 points)

TONIGHT against the Pelicans-Willy Hernangómez had a CAREER-HIGH of 29 points on 11-15 shooting

This might not mean anything, but it is a quick glance at a some of his latest games and centers seem to be having more success. Even if he has dropped off some defensively, it seems as if it is worth it currently with how Philly is playing.

Actually the reason those bigs are scoring is because the Sixers have been getting beat with dribble penetration. Losing Simmons they lost maybe the best on ball defender in the league and they also had Thybuille miss a bunch of recent games. So with Korkmaz and Niang getting beat that forces Embiid to help and his man is left open for lobs or easy put backs.

Thybuille coming back now will help but they desperately need to add another good perimeter wing.

Embiid was not doing much at all in the first half on defense against Willy. He turned it on in the 2nd half though. When you are the offensive hub of your team, you can't possibly be elite on defense all the time. He does it when he needs to. He had 4 blocks in the 2nd half, 3 in the 4th quarter.

Bamba only had 4 threes with Embiid on the court, the other were with him off the court.

Also the Sixers defense is absolutey putrid without Embiid. He can't be Gobert on defense when literally no one other than Thybulle can stop his man.

Embiid was at 42USG% for January before this last game which is higher than anything ever posted over a full season since 1967/68. Westbrook's 2017 at 41.7% d Harden's 2019 at 40.5% are the only other ones over 40%.

It's been fun but I doubt he can keep that all time volume up.

Unfortunately embiid has to get the ball. Sixers have have so many guys out of the lineup. Every night 3 starters/bench players. Their core 9 man rotation player. 3 or even 4 guys are missing every night.

The other night be shot 32 times for 38 points which is actually inefficient for embiid. Because curry milton green thybulle all missing games again. Sixers are missing both a lot of offense and defensive production from guys out and this even isn’t including Simmons who hasn’t played a single minute this season

Yeah. It’s not sustainable for long term playoff success.

The number of rebounds look great but it has a lot to do with bad rebounding from his team mates.

Denver top rebounders:
Nikola Jokic 13.8
Aaron Gordon 5.6
Will Barton 4.8
JaMychal Green 3.7

Jokic grabs 32% of his teams rebounds.

Phily top rebounders:
Joel Embiid 10.7
Andre Drummond 8.8
Tobias Harris 7.4
Tyrese Maxey 3.4
Seth Curry 3.4

Embiid grabs 25% of his teams rebounds.

Milwaukee top rebounders:
Giannis Antetokounmpo 11.3
Bobby Portis 9.5
Khris Middleton 5.7
Jrue Holiday 4.6
Pat Connaughton 4.5
Jordan Nwora 4.1

Giannis grabs 23% of his teams rebounds.

Bucks are 2nd in rebounding, Nuggets 26th, 6ers 30th.
Top 4 in rebouding are Memphis, Mil, GSW and Utah. Suns are 7th. You could argue these are the best teams in the league.
Bucks were a great rebounding team with Brook Lopez, who only averages 5 boards per game.

Maybe the centers of Denver and Phily should focus more on boxing out and make sure their team mates get more (easy) boards in stead of grabbing as much as possible them selves to increase their own PER and MVP chances...
