The most popular US team in the world
https://bookies.com/news/the-most-popular-us-sports-teams-around-the-world
Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering their popularity across most continents, the Golden State Warriors top the charts as most popular US sports team around the world, taking the crown in an astounding 56 countries (more than the next six best-performing teams combined).
The Miami Heat come in second with the vote of 16 countries, while the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks have 12 and 10, respectively. Curiously, the top 10 US sports teams around the world are all from the NBA, with NFL not featured until the Dallas Cowboys in 11th.

Not surprising that the NFL is not that popular overseas. Violence and committee meetings don't appeal to more rational countries.

I doubt that people watch any popular USA sport other than basketball. I tried watching rugby (football) once. Felt like i was watching a commercial break through the whole damn game.

or....instead of it being political....its because basketball is far more accessible for other countries than football is.
Why do you think soccer is the most popular worldwide sport? Its not because its the best sport, its because its one sport that requires next to no equipment to play and is not dictated by player count.
People from every country no matter how big, small, rich or poor can play soccer as long as they have something resembling a ball. Thats all you need to play.
Accessibility = popularity.
Football is probably the least accessible sport out there because of the amount of people it requires to play and expensive equipment it takes.
Its also why winter sports like skiing/snowboarding are not hugely popular even among Americans. It requires a lot of equipment, its expensive as hell and it requires the correct geography. Less accessible = less popular. You can lump golf into that equation as well.

"We’ve analyzed Google search volume data " without even stating the time they're searching for.
It's not measuring popularity or who's team is the favorite. Just who has most recently had reasons to be searched for.
That's what's causing the obvious disconnect from reality of calling the teams the OP is saying are the most popular teams. It's just ignoring how the data is gathered and misusing it to draw that conclusion.

Won't lie I'm surprised.
Thought for sure it would be one of the Lakers, Cowboys or Yankees.

The most searched - could be the most popular. Its not 100% correct, but true is somewhere in ghe middle.

No surprise. Basketball is the 3rd most popular team sport worldwide.
American football, baseball or hockey have no large fanbases if any.

Re: The most popular US team in the world
I have lived in 9 countries over the last 30 years, and the Bulls are the most noticed when it comes to merchandise, everywhere. The NY Yankee hat is #1, but for a team overall, it's the Bulls.
I am in North Africa now, and recently I went into a random store to buy pajamas for my daughter. They had 1 Laker item and about 10 Bulls items for sale. In the main mall, at the top sports shop, it's a big poster of DRose in his Bulls' uniform that is most prominent. It was like that in Japan and Latin America too-Bulls stuff all over the place.

This 100%. Notice the Bucks are up there, no coincidence they are a top searched team they just won the finals. Plus as you mentioned when was this research done? Right before the start of the NBA season? I would think if it was done the week of the Super Bowl we’d have much different results. I would think the Lakers, Yankees and Cowboys or Patriots would be the most liked teams. Why not look at jersey sales by country? Or tv/streaming in those countries? Google search is such a skewed metric.

Giannis is hugely popular in Europe. His signature shoe release was massive. The five countries that listed the Bucks are all European.

Well we got the most famous sports statue in the world. Of a guy only pretending to be a sports hero. (And a fine art museum who’s stuck with the ultimate piece of kitsch.)

Re: The most popular US team in the world
I think a lot about this stuff. Not saying I have definitive conclusions, but it’s interesting.
There was a thread recently about the NBA being in trouble without upcoming American superstars and my thought there was: Maybe a problem for the American market, but not the Global market.
It’s true that no market has been monetized like the US at this point, but there’s good reason to think the Earth is flattening in this front.
Something I’ve seen from foreign markets I didn’t necessarily expect is a loyalty to the franchises they first fall in love with. So the Houston Rockets remained popular in China long after Yao retired (granted this may be different after Morey’s comment, I don’t know where things stand now).
This bodes very well for a franchise like the Bucks not just because they obviously have the Greek Goods right now, but because Milwaukee is a small market, and foreign fans thus allow a chance to further grow the fan base.
Re: Golden State. In general I feel like RealGM has become so GOAT or Bust focused that folks miss how huge of an icon Curry is already, and if the Warriors can win a chip in the next year or two, that’s going to explode further.
The main thing is that he looks like a normal person and his signature move is something all can emulate (whether that’s wise for their basketball play is another matter).
From a franchise perspective though, because he has stayed with the same franchise, that franchise is benefitting tremendously.
For younger fans, I don’t think they even realize that for decades the Warriors were the butt of a joke, and the idea of calling them a “big market juggernaut” just didn’t fit with reality.
But now they are big market right up there with the Lakers and Knicks. Time will tell if this continues, but sometimes it seems impossible for a franchise this many decades in to move into this tier. The Clippers and Nets for example play in those big markets, but there is strong resistance by fans local and otherwise to the idea that they should be seen as rivals to the long-time established Lakers (dominant sports team of LA ahead of the Dodgers) or Knicks (the kings of Manhattan since the Yankees live in the Bronx).
I would argue that that resistance with the Warriors has entirely disappeared for all but the oldest of old-timers. I’d still say the Giants are the kings of SF, but the Warriors are gaining locally and have the California-based location of “Golden State” which really seems perfect when you’re watching Curry in the traditional California colors of sea/sky (blue) and gold (as in Gold Rush).

With the exception of one season, the Dolphins have played a game in London every year since 2007.

knock off Miami Heat vice jerseys are everywhere over here. I doubt most people know anything about the team though. I think they just like the jersey.
