Jabari Parker

After the news of him being cut, I'll ask if his career could have played out differently.
It looked like he showed a lot of promise when coming into the league, but it seems like he's been oddly forgotten in terms of being a top pick.

No not forgotten as such, he just never played defence. And after having 2 acl tears in the same knee he was just never the same on offense. He lost alot of explosion.

Same thing I said in the Cousins thread, no matter where he would've gone his immaturity would've always ended up being an issue. His comments about you dont get paid to play defense is all you need to know on why he has bounced from bench to bench and currently doesnt have a job.
Same thing with Cousins, ya if Parker didnt have the injuries things might have been a little better. But again immaturity issues are going to catch up sooner or later.
He basically made it public he doesnt work hard on the little things in the sport. And guess what when youre competing against the other top 450 guys in the world at this sport. When you dont work hard on even the little things, you lose your spot pretty quick.

Two ACL injuries in the same knee never help your case of being a top basketball player. But based on his interviews, he also never showed the willingness to change his game, and focus more on minor things like defense.
It's not a coincidence that former top(ish) offensive bigs like Boogie, Monroe, Parker can't find consistent jobs in the league nowadays.

The back to back knee injuries killed any momentum he was gaining to be a good player. What later hurt him was he was a one-dimensional tweener who couldn't/can't do anything else and refuses to change his game in any sort of way. Being a 3/4 tweener is the worst place to be in the NBA.

Luka is immature. He is still a first team all nba player. You can still succeed and be immature.

He can still give you a little scoring burst in short stints. But he doesn't play defense so you can't have him on the floor much. And when he's only playing now and then, he presses and tries to do too much and ends up playing poorly. So I don't really think there's a role for him in the NBA anymore.

We're talking 2 very different levels of immaturity though. And just with anything else, the better you are the more you can get away with.
Luka actually tries to play defense, Luka actually tries to get his teammates involved. 2 things Jabari didnt do and 2 things Jabari felt like he didnt need to do because you dont get paid to do those things. Jabari felt like the only thing he needed to focus on was scoring because that is what gets you paid. That is on a completely different level of ignorance and immaturity than Luka has ever showed.

Imagine if Milwaukee picked Embiid instead of Parker?

Ironically, they didn't due to Embiid being an injury risk.

The funniest thing is that the argument for choosing Parker over Embiid IIRC was that they wanted a player that would help the team inmediately, in the end he was almost as injury prone as Embiid and lost many years rehabbing too.
Also Parker is a player that we could really use right now.

Very disappointing career.
Injuries played a part and the comment about defense didn’t help.

Makes Davis Bertans even more impressive, 2 ACLs, no defense, still made the league and robbed one GM blind.

yes, it isn't cut and dry. If Jabari didnt get hurt, he is 100% a starter. If Cousins didn't get hurt, he is 100% a 1st, 2nd or 3rd option.

It is hard to put into words how laughable his effort on the defensive end was during his (thankfully) short spell with the Bulls.

Immaturity, injuries, and Giannis absolutely destroyed what could’ve been.

To be fair to Parker, a lot of people thought Wiggins would be better than Wiggins.

He gets way more money on a 10-day as a vet than some rotation guy from G-League. And the market says he's not worth it.
