https://theathletic.com/3060724/2022/01/10/update-on-ben-simmons-trade-talks-frustrated-hawks-star-john-collins-a-possible-match-nba-news-and-notes/"Simmons has yet to play this season after informing his 76ers organization, coaches and teammates that he is not mentally ready to play and needs time to work on himself.
The 76ers have not been fining Simmons, as he fulfills team obligations such as training sessions and team meetings as well as continuing to meet with mental health specialists, sources said. And yet, the 76ers don’t appear any closer to a trade than they were in the offseason and prior to training camp."So theyre putting no pressure on Simmons to return and dont seem close to a trade, lmao.
Update 2/1:
SIMMONS HAS LOST over $19 million in fines since the season began (each missed game costs him $360,000). He hasn't cleared a paycheck since the $8.25 million (25% of his $33 million salary) that was due to him Oct. 1. Every two weeks the team sends a notice with an explanation of all the fines he has accumulated for failing to render services, instead of a $1.375 million paycheck. By the end of the season, if he does not play for the Sixers or any other team, Simmons could lose another $12 million.

Ben Simmons has made mental health a complete joke. Fine him until he plays, or the next CBA is going to install a rule for people like him

So the Sixers may just be sitting on their hands until the offseason. I think this is fine if the trade market for Ben Simmons isn't robust enough to meaningfully improve your title chances this year. Too many teams have ruined their future by making win now trades that didn't even end up making the team better in the short term.

While what Simmons is doing doesn't see great from the outside looking in, Morey seems just as delusional with his asking price. If the Sixers don't trade Ben by the trade deadline, I will shift my anger towards him and the Sixers. Right now I think most will side against Simmons for how he's gone about things.

76ers are up s***'s creek. They've stopped fining Simmons and probably can only trade him to a few places because best believe Paul has been telling certain teams/markets to trade for Ben at their own risk because he won't be happy there. The endgame for Paul is still to eventually get Simmons to the Lakers to team up with AD to form the new post-Lebron core.

Feel bad for Philly fans but honestly Simmons and Morey sound like they deserve each other

Ditto and for that reason...
Philly trades Morey and Simmons to the Mavs for Nico and Porzingis

ya, but the counter argument is "how good does the player you get have to be to justify punting this season?". I dont see a dominant team out there; are the Sixers with another good 2-3 rotation players not in the mix for a title? I mean theyre up against mostly teams with a player as dominant(Giannis)/less dominant than Embiid and who's rosters are just decent, with the exception of the Nets who have a litany of issues to sort out themselves.
Like if you could get Reddish/Huerter/Collins and a 1st for Simmons, which i think is very doable, do you not have a chance for a title? You also have Harris/your own 1sts and that Hawks 1st to get someone back. That's a realistic trade that could be done tomorrow, imo, but is Philly only locked in on star power?
If you get past the trade deadline with 30 mill of dead cap on your roster, you have to rationalize that the player you end up getting for Simmons is good enough to justify a wasted season, and i just dont see that as likely.

no, we're not....we can wait for the best offer. Sixers fans are not pressuring Morey. As a matter of fact, Simmons is barely mentioned in the Philly media anymore. Maxey has been a joy to watch. Team is not championship bound right now, but they are entertaining....
10, 9, 8, 76ers!!!

The Philadelphia 76ers have "little-to-no hope" of persuading Ben Simmons to rejoin the team if they don't trade him by the deadline.
Simmons has remained out all season long for personal reasons while focusing on his mental health. Simmons is holding to his pledge of never playing for the 76ers again.

Sixers fans may not be pressuring Morey but you best believe management didn't give him and Rivers all that money to not be a contender with Embiid in his prime(and healthy btw). If there was no pressure then they would've hired an up and coming assistant as coach and a low profile hire as GM. Morey and Rivers got next year to make the Finals imo or they're done.

According to Dan Feldman of NBC Sports, The Sixers have fined Simmons over 19 million to this point.

I don't see Simmons being moved at the deadline. This situation is dire for Philly and I'm not sure they get the best offer at the deadline. They have yet to make a move, and the so called "talks" with Sacramento broke down. The offseason is where they will have the best chance of getting the offer they like, hopefully.
It sucks not seeing Simmons play (hopefully he's working on his shot).

Simmons is an idiot if true. Go there and fake a back injury or something so he could still get paid. He should follow Kawhis lead even if Kawhi did some have knee issues but it could never really be proven.
