Daryl Morey should step down

He's doing an absolutely terrible job with how he's treating Simmons. He won't get Lillard, Harden, or any payer he wants if he keeps holding Ben hostage like this.

Simmons isn't honoring his contract.

Holding him hostage? What about the way Simmons is treating his teammates? He's got a 4 year max contract playing basketball for a living on what would be a contender, and has resorted to faking back issues and subsequently using mental health as a ploy so that he can sit home and get paid.

Maybe Morey ends up mishandling this, but it remains to be seen how this will play out.

What an original thought and great idea for a new thread.

I have no problem with what he's doing. He's holding him hostage? lol thats a bit much, Ben has been welcomed back but he refuses to play. He's more than welcome to retire and live his life.

I do agree he has over priced what he think's he'll get back for him. But Ben is not the victim here.

Don't sign a contract if the contract never plans to be honored.

Morey isn't holding anyone hostage, as Ben Simmons is enjoying himself in a Call of Duty match right now.

What's the alternative, trade Ben Simmons for Harrison Barnes and change? I don't think that gets the Sixers closer to landing Harden or Lillard.

Morey is wasting Embiid's prime.

Is James Harden playing Morey for a fool? Morey has decided not to improve the Sixers this season in order to potentially acquire a rival player in the same conference for next season? If Harden wanted to be a Sixer he could force a trade this season.

If Embiid goes down a week after the deadline and nothing's been done this year...they'll be calling for him to do that.

Morey is an idiot. If he's banking his entire plan on James Harden he's even dumber than I thought.

Morey should be fired but not for any injustice to Ben Simmons.

Simmons is just scared to play basketball.

Morey should be fired because he has opted to punt 31m in cap during the prime of Embiids career.

Sorry but Ben Simmons can kick rocks. Dude signs a 5/170M contract, wants all the perks and privileges that comes with being a professional athlete but not the damn responsibilities. Dude's put more work into his damn instagram account than his damn basketball game. This picture describes it very well:

As for Morey a few things need to be put into consideration:

-Dude has to listen to what ownership wants out of him. He knows that he screwed up in not moving him sooner and that his value has cratered due to him going AWOL and refusing to honour his contract. Ben wanted his money, but didn't want to play and resorted to the bull mental health excuse the second 25% of his salary($8.25M) was put into escrow with the blessings of the NBPA where they'd fine him for every infraction.
-He's playing Russian roulette and whether it works or not remains to be seen. If Morey's long-term game is Harden, well good luck. He's praying that Harden has second thoughts about going to Brooklyn and if things go south there especially with Kyrie in particular who knows.
-It sucks that they're stuck with 33M+ rotting on their cap sheet when that money can better be allocated elsewhere, but there are a lot of desperate teams that are looking to just get into the playoffs so perhaps it may work.

Honestly I just want this Simmons saga to end once and for all. Embiid doesn't deserve this BS and I'm still amazed at how Doc Rivers got a coaching gig after the meltdown in the bubble. Seriously 76ers fans who made the hiring decision there? Was it ownership? Joshua Harris&co. seem to be an absolutely dysfunctional group especially with how they run the New Jersey Devils.

For the 500th time, Morey isn't a genius and he's not an idiot, and his 'plan' is so simple and boring that it doesn't even need to be talked about. He doesn't want to trade Simmons for McCollum or John Collins because that doesn't improve the team very much, so he's holding out to package Simmons/Maxey/picks/etc for a star that could make them a contender.

For the 500th time, yes that plan is risky and yes it very easily might work out. Again Morey's not a genius, he's just a dude trying out a plan. And for the 500th time making a trade for Collins or McCollum also 'wastes Embiid's prime' because that team still very very likely can't win a championship and locks them into being over the cap for the next 3-4 years with a sub-champ roster (and you also can't really trade Maxey and 2 1sts for a star so options are more limited).

For the 500th time, yes other plans are also reasonable. Morey's is controversial and it might not be the best. But it's also not stupid or insane or anything else. It's just a plan that's playing out, you can ignore it until something actually happens.
