OT: Bonds & Clemens Miss HOF

Do you think they should've gotten in?

This was their last (10th) year of eligibility so they're shut out permanently I believe. Sosa missed out also.

David Ortiz made it and was the only person inducted this year

I do think that arguably the best player in the history of their sport should have made the Hall Of Fame.

I'm all for them not getting in. They made their choices and now they're paying for them, that's life. The only thing I don't understand is Ortiz getting in, since he was also juicing.

Pretty sure they can still get in with a players vote but that seems unlikely for Bonds who was never well liked.

It is harsh not seeing some of the greatest I've seen play not get in, but they got busted and are paying the piper, that doesn't mean they don't deserve it though. They were household names in America at least.

Sadly, both players were good enough without having to resort to chemical assistance. There's always the Veteran's Committee I suppose. PED's helped Bonds hit the ball farther, but they don't help eye/hand coordination, the most important part of hitting. Bat speed is a very close second, and perhaps using the juice made Bonds less tired in the later innings, thereby allowing him to keep up his quick swing. There is no doubt that Bonds home run total is inflated to an insane degree. According to the Zips system used and endorsed by MLB, Bonds projected home run total for his career was 551, far short of 762. Using the same system for Clemens, his projected win total of 298 is far short of his actual total of 354. Both players seemed to get stronger and more accomplished for their age as they got older.

I'm more impressed that Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron did it on beer and hot dogs.

Yes, I think they should have. I think baseball voters are basically ridiculous in the culture they've built and they've really lost the thread on what a Hall of Fame is for.

I would understand not including Bonds & Clemens if they were the only two guys we thought used steroids, or if they represented "the first guys" caught with this stuff, but as is, what you're talking about are guys who started using on the back end of their career as they realized others were juicing and the MLB was winking at it.

The MLB thus made that era the Steroid Era, and in that era we likely saw the best baseball play of all time with a new popularity...and this museum now wants to ignore all of that significant stuff in favor of...sometimes NOBODY (empty HOF classes).

It would be foolish even if the Hall of Fame didn't already have known cheaters in it, but as is, their sanctimonious moralism is just one more reason to stop following the sport.

Of course. PEDs were so widespread in baseball it's not like it wasn't an even playing field

It’s a joke. Baseball players throughout history did all kinds of sketchy, out of bounds things to gain advantages. Bonds is the best baseball player ever. He’d get one good pitch a night, at most, and knock it out of the park. Baseball is a dying game and the stuffy pearl clutchers will just make it die sooner.

I don't even watch Baseball and they SHOULD get in.

I think it's ridiculous. We all know Bonds took performance enhancing drugs, but so were lots of players, and Bonds technically never even tested positive. To me, Bonds was a HoFer before he even started breaking homerun records.

Honestly, for the same sports writers who saw the physical changes on HUNDREDS of players over the course of that decade and never said a damn word to then leave these guys out is an absolute joke! They were the ones who's job it was to sound the alarm and they knowingly let it go on until it came out elsewhere. Give me a break!

Both should be in. Bonds is the greatest player I've ever seen.

Both the MLB and Basketball HOF are the biggest jokes ever, for different reasons.

Also, didn't Ortiz get popped for performance enhancing drugs?

Yes, that is correct. The whole thing is actually pretty remarkable.

Both were first ballot HOF players before they juiced. I don't agree with what they did, but this is silly.

I always crack up at the people who say they shouldn't get in. Like give me a break. Bonds is the best player to ever play the game IMO and deserves to be in the HOF easily
