Starting to feel badly for Brooklyn fans

Post#1 » by longtallbrad » Thu Jan 27, 2022 5:30 pm

I'm enough of a purist (or old-fashioned grump) to take a dim view of stars (and superstars) maneuvering into clusters rather than honoring loyalty of franchise and community, blah blah blah. That said, I realize now I wasn't going to have any problem with Brooklyn's Big Three winning a title or two and being perennial contenders as long as they didn't run the table year after year after year.

A tumultuous year and a half into the experiment, Nets fans are looking at a team anchored by half a Kyrie, Durant off the court for at least six weeks, and highly dissatisfied Harden who (once again) seems to be acting out and wanting out. That sucks. It's an internal plot twist for me to know be rooting for health, sanity, and competitive momentum to be restored in Brooklyn.

After all of that premature celebrating I’ve had to endure over the last couple of seasons I’m trying hard to care but alas, I’m unable.

Its regular season game 40 of their first full year together, and they are half a game behind first place of the east.

2 out of 3 of their star players have rested substantially in the regular season and will be ready for the playoffs. This is pretty important for older players (imo), regardless of the reason for rest (in KDs case its an unfortunate injury and I wish him well).

1 out of 3 of their superstars won't be able to play 50% (or more/less) of playoff games.

They have surrounding talent like LaMarcus & Patty that are stepping up.

I dont know. This isn't a terrible situation to be in.

Which of those three do you think I was or any Heat fan on this site for that matter?

Expectations to regular season play? The jump to "this is a disaster" can be viewed as premature as "this is a guaranteed chip for the next 3-5 years", at least imo.

I too hate it when Superteams don't have everything go their way.

Just kidding, who the **** wants to see that.

I watched them last night against Denver. Had I been a BK fan, I would have been sad with the loss, but pleased with the effort. You had a bunch of guys out there who were either unknowns or seen as washed up and they were playing hard and competing. They lost due to Jokic being levels better than anyone they had and Austin Rivers randomly catching fire, but I thought they were better than I expected to see.

Now, yes, I might be disappointed relative to expectations, but had I become a fan of the scrappy teams of a few years ago, I'd be enjoying this sort of basketball.

I hated the Warriors with Durant way more than I do this Nets team.

I refuse to get the worthless jab myself, plus I'm a Knicks fan who doesn't want to see the Nets win a title before the Knicks get another. So this whole thing is magnificently fun to watch.

Least they are one of the top seed, I'm not feeling bad for any other team right now, too busy hating mine.

My team will never have 3 HOF players on it at once, so I'll be saving my empathy for something else, thanks.
