Now Randle gets a fan ejected

Post#1 » by Commodor » Sat Jan 29, 2022 4:56 am

According to multiple outlets Randle got a fan ejected in Miami for “light heckling” according to the fan in question. Here’s some parts the fan said for the NY post article;

“Hey Randle, you get a $118 million contract and this is what I get? The fans get a thumbs down, this is what we get?” The fan insisted during the call that he said “nothing personal” or profane, but he was issued a warning after Randle pointed him out to arena security.

Later in the game, the fan said he also yelled at the Knicks forward that he was “minus-34” in the blowout loss, and Randle alerted security again. The spectator then was thrown out of the game by two uniformed police officers, according to a video posted on WFAN’s Twitter account.

Now I don’t want to diminish other issues that are clearly wrong but it’s clear the lines are being skewed between actual attacks on athletes and just those who have thin skin.

NBA needs to reign in this situation. Fans & players are going too far.

I vote robot refs for the game and use the actual refs to police the fans. It’s clear human refs are incapable of correctly calling games (in all sports) and it’s clear the current status quo cannot handle player egos or unacceptable fans.

So yeah. This is a robot ref thread.

They need to make VERY clear guidelines on speech in these arenas and it needs to be league wide, not up to the arenas. I know they make more money than any players ever have, but this is still too much on them and having fans not know the heckling limits is a bit outta control. maybe have player retain this ability to kick ppl out, but if its wrong, fine the player and give the ejected fans better seats than the ones they had for another game.

Looking at these as individual incidents instead of making broad statements on the players or the fans is crucial.

Just put a sound proof barrier around the court. Or not allow fans to go to the game is a good idea as well.

These guys really shouldn’t have to hear things like “minus 34”. People need to understand the long term ramifications of saying things like that. Players shouldn’t have to put up with stuff like that.

I’m assuming you’re joking with players hearing “minus 34” is an issue.

Glad to see someone gets it. What's next? Players will be trash talked for things like their subpar true shooting percentage and win shares per 48? There are lines you don't cross when it comes to trash talk. This has no place in the league and I applaud the security for handling it swiftly.

My thoughts and prayers are with Randle and his family after this brutal verbal assault.

Today's NBA is so unbelievably soft lol. Expect to get heckled on the road. Hell, expect to get heckled at home in some cities if you're underperforming. This isn't golf.

Agreed. They have guidelines (51s in video below), but it's pretty vague and it seems like it's ultimately up to the players/coaches/refs to decide if those guidelines are being violated, which is BS.

Bird sticks a three in his opponent’s face, steals the inbounds feeding a teammate for a dunk and turns to the heckler and winks. That’s how it’s done. New school players have a lot to learn.

Sad state of affairs

As long as the heckling is relative to the game of basketball then I don't see a problem. Lebron was taunted for an entire year by 29 different fanbases but it was about his Decision and his NBA behaviors - he deserved it.

Saying that Randle is playing like trash and he's stealing money isn't inappropriate, he's a thin skinned chucker that is diminishing his trade value every game he plays.

Do you really think Randle is capable of hitting a 3?

Tell the fans to act right and we wont have a problem. The only one between the players amd the fans that need to be at the game for the season to go on… is the players.

And what is "acting right"?
Are fans allowed zero input because little weasel player might get upset at someone booing them?

How about this - the players play a game and make millions and the fans pay for their tickets and fund the player's lavish lifestyles while cheering/booing?

Definitely not true unless the players want their contracts slashed in half. All you have to do is look at the bubble tv ratings, even LeBron playing and nobody wanted to watch that empty gym exhibition game energy crap. Lowest viewership in decades

If fans keep it to basketball they shouldn't be thrown out, that's ridiculous.
