In the latest edition of the The Big Podcast with Shaq, O’Neal revealed that an angry Ben Simmons sent him a few direct messages to argue about what he said on Inside the NBA. Shaq wouldn’t disclose exactly what Simmons wrote but described him as “mad.”

Shaq said he told Simmons that he was leaving Joel Embiid out there without support and that he needed to play. Simmons said some things back that Shaq wouldn’t disclose, but still, it shows how Simmons remains preoccupied with what people are saying about him.

It’s the same issue that started this mess, and it doesn’t inspire confidence that Simmons will ever return to the Sixers again.

We all know Ben is only DMing Shaq in between his 10 reps of 1000 jump shots.

Shaq's criticism was that Ben doesn't take criticism well. IMO, Shaq doesn't take criticism particularly well either. Many people don't.

Shaq acknowledges this in the full quote. E.g.:

"I've been in this moment many times. They ask, they say, 'Hey, you think you can win with Shaq in the fourth quarter?' And all my coaches say, 'He got to step up and knock them down.' They all said that. I didn't go, 'Oh, I already got 38. I missed 12 free throws, trade me, get rid of me.'

The difference between Shaq and Simmons is that Shaq proved his doubters wrong and that they could win with Shaq in the fourth quarter--to include multiple championships. Simmons, on the other hand, chose to stay home to play video games...and obviously take the occasional break to fire off a "tough" DM or three....

Forget burnt bridges, bridge is nuked. Although Embiid could be referring to something else.

The question at this point isn't about whether Simmons is sensitive when it comes to criticism. We already know the answer to that question. The question is will he take all this criticism and actually work on his game to prove everyone wrong. Will he actually become an adequate outside threat in the future like how Jason Kidd and a few other players did who couldn't shoot when they came out of college. That's still up to Ben.

Been interesting to watch this coming, I don't watch a ton of the TNT after-game show but I've seen Shaq trying to give him more encouraging advice here and there over the past couple years. Couple years ago he was calling him a beast and fully in on him, then last year in the PO he was saying things like 'one LSU brother to another, shake it off, take it to em, and prove em wrong in game 4/5/6/7' and then we end up with this. I've never liked Shaq as a personality so not taking his side here, but this isn't just random hate. He's been disappointed by his fellow LSU mega-prospect guy not getting there.
