March 12th, 1995 - Speculation about Jordan's return (Video)

Came across this and found it interesting, so I thought others may also enjoy the video.

Amazing how accurate Walton's prediction was. Jordan had 55 points his 5th game back, then had a brief slump, including a season low 12 points 2 games later.

Absolutely. Instead of being considered the greatest player of all time he would be considered... the greatest player of all time.

LBJ is gonna beat him out due to longevity, it's inevitable as most people see.

MJ coulda sealed that convo up, if he was able to stick with basketball. LeBron switches teams, MJ just straight quit the sport lol

****!!!

Kareem had the longest, most accomplished and illustrious career in basketball history by the time he retired in 1989 and the general public as well as the media couldn’t hop fast enough on the “Michael Jordan is the GOAT” bandwagon after he won his first title just two years later in 1991!

MJ captured the world’s imagination as only athletes like Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Pele and Gretzky could do before him. LeBaldo is not in that conversation sorry to say.

His boring Kareem-like robotic game will fade away from people’s imagination soon after he retires and it doesn’t matter if he plays 30 years, nothing will change that fact.

The Last Dance got higher ratings and the LeBron in the Finals for God’s sake and the he still sells more shows than any of the modern posers combined!!!

Longevity isn't an argument or Udonis Haslem would be the goat. It comes down to peak, rings, final MVPs, MVPs, dpoys. You know actual measurable achievements. LBJ unlikely to get there. Yeah he might play to 50, but if he still has less hardware to show for it, its a losing argument.

Btw, the scoring title doesn't come with an award so don't even bring that up. It's not an achievement if its not awarded

Do some of you guys not realize that Lebron's ship has sailed?

The only way someone is going to eclipse MJ is by

1. Having a higher peak.
2. Being bigger than MJ.
3. Winning more.

4. Most importantly. It won't be a debate.

Most the world still has MJ. All LeBron is doing is increasing the gap between #3, and shrinking the gap to #1. But that gap to #1 is still unattainable. Always will be.

Ah, the good ol’ “let’s ignore the fact he was burnt out and needed a break, and instead say he could have won 8 straight rings”. Never gets old from you MJ fans.

How is he ignoring that he took a break?
Just imagine if he went the Lebron way,
Signed with the spurs in 98.
I kinda wish he did then we wouldnt have Lebron fans coming in and making up stuff to start an argument :banghead:

JoRdAn WaS sUspEnDeD fOr GaMbLiNg...that's how the kids do it these days isn't it?

This has been addressed by Stern and Jordan and realistically anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that was never the case. The man had just concluded his first 3 peat and then received news of his father being murdered, I don't blame him at all for walking away from the game at that point.

Anyone that says he was suspended either has an agenda OR isn't very bright

https://sports.yahoo.com/the-last-dance-michael-jordan-gambling-suspension-theory-david-stern-nba-021303377.html

https://nba.nbcsports.com/2020/05/11/michael-jordan-david-stern-shoot-down-rumor-jordan-was-suspended-for-gambling/

“I didn’t retire because the league kicked me out or they suspended me for a year and a half. That is not true,” Jordan said during Last Dance. “There’s no truth to that. I needed a break, my father just passed. And I retired. And I retired with the notion that I wasn’t going to come back.”

"The folklore, the urban legend that I sent him away because he was gambling. No basis in fact,” former NBA Commissioner David Stern said.

“How can I phrase this delicately? Total bulls***,” said Brian McIntyre, former Senior Communications Advisor to the NBA, said with emphasis.

Are you on drugs? He obviously thinks Jordan would have kept dominating if he didn’t keep retiring, just all all MJ fans. Nobody ever says “he retired because he was burnt out and if he didn’t it wouldn’t have ended well” which is a real possibility.

Oh yes, Jordan and Stern would go and say on file about the gambling things :banghead: :banghead:

The same Stern that had to safe Jordan from Zeke and the Bad Boys spanking him in the Playoffs

Yeah Stern was amazing in the 91 season, the way he constantly penetrated against the Pistons defense and kicked it out to Paxson and Hodges was the real difference in the Bulls sweeping the Pistons instead of a 7 game series.

You can keep :banghead: if you like, but you might have done it too many times if you actually believe the league that allowed worse things than gambling would suspend the best player in the game, the most marketable player in the game that made them more money than anyone in the history of the sport, because he was gambling  ....
