Is Curry one of the least reliable superstars in the clutch?

Post#1 » by WestGOAT » Mon Feb 21, 2022 7:28 am

His over-reliance on the 3-ball is going to give GSW a lot of trouble in closing games in the playoffs.

He's pretty average at best creating his own shot one-on-one (frankly DeRozan has been way more impressive than him this year) and he is just too dependent on getting free off of screens / off-ball movement.

At the end of the day a 3-pointer is a low percentage-shot compared to shots closers to the basket. I rather have an elite mid-ranger like Kawhi / Durant / Dirk that can reliabley create their own shot.

Yes, I too concluded that the all-star game is similar to a playoff game.

If he's dropping bombs like that in a playoff game there is no clutch time cause the game would be well in hand before crunch time comes.

Y'all crazy with stats and clutch minutes and points scored in the last 2 minutes or something...

Games CAN be won long before the last 2 minutes

The 3, especially unopened ones curry tends to throw up in crunch time has the most variance and lowest % of any shot.
definitely prefer a Giannis drive or a KD midrange.

But if steph catches a streak in crunch time he can overcome large holes or put games away unlike anyone offensively. Too bad for him and the warriors that didn’t happen the 2 times they needed it the most ( end of 2016 game 7 and 2019 game 6). Vs the earlier rounds where he was clutch. Or when he started putting games away in the 4th quarter during the 2015 finals. Top 3 in 4th quarter scoring avg in finals history that year, maybe 4th now bc of giannis last year, not sure.

lol this can't be serious. Its an all star game. In a real game you run a real offense.

Not if you're the Lakers.

Very few players are reliable in the clutch because teams know who needs the ball and can zero in for those last few possessions. The clutch really gives the defense an advantage. Coaches have time to gameplan and all the help defenders have time to set up in the half-court. There was a Lebron stat of the day a while back comparing him to other clutch all-stars over the years. In terms of reliable scoring down the stretch Dirk was a little ahead of him and Jordan a decent way ahead of Dirk. And those three guys are kind of the list. Maybe there were some clutch players back in the day, I know Jerry West and Bill Russel have that reputation with shots and blocks. Kawhi could force some shots down the stretch with the Raptors. Really though, Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Kobe, Nash, Steph, Giannis, Embiid, Luka, Vince Carter, Iverson, Shaq, Karl Malone, Stockton, Kareem, so many legends have their efficiency drop down the stretch.

If only there was a way of measuring the effectiveness of his 3pt shot...

This is your takeaway from the all-star game where Curry drops 50? Steph haters are unreal

He’s not the least reliable. There’s a Warriors poster with a signature that has his clutch stats in the 2015 Finals. He’s not the first guy I want taking the last shot though as the 2016 Finals shown.

Embiid >>>> Jokic

Embiid feasted last night while the Joker did nothing but become very passive. This is not the type of mentality you want out of your number 1 option. As for Curry. Fiddy. 16 3's. GOAT.

Looks fine to me. And he's shooting worse in the clutch this year than virtually every other year.

How do people define "clutch"? Which parameters would one use?

I didn't so when I read some of the comments here it seemed Curry was terrible. Turns out he had 50 points with 16 threes in the game and was its MVP.

Kind of similar to the criticism of Curry in the clutch. He sounds awful listening to all the detractors but when you actually look at the performance and results it turns out he may be the best clutch player in the league.
