The Cavaliers are in real danger of falling out of playoff contention

Post#1 » by TheLand13 » Thu Mar 3, 2022 3:34 am

Edit: Yikes. Well this was definitely a thread... that I created. That's all I can really say about this one because there's no real positives to take from it other than now I know what a stupidly put together thread looks like. Normally when I make one, I think about what I want to say and provide any research or reasoning that I can think of to back up what I say. I somehow managed to pull off none of that here and still thought it was a good idea to post this. Geesh. All in all, I'd say it took me about a minute to type what I typed below, and I guess I can't claim anymore that I don't make reactionary takes born out of frustration like I did here, as this was made after my team got blown out at home by a supposedly (because they've actually played well against us this year) inferior Charlotte Hornets team based on record. Can't say I plan on doing another thread like this anytime soon, but if I do, I might as well just delete my account at that point, because this is lolworthy.

Oh and btw, my third post in this thread that showed someone else pointing out standings was a sarcastic post on my part. Y'all are taking that one way too seriously. Last time I'm going to point that out. Otherwise though, feel free to point out how terribly put together this was because... yeah, I can't defend or justify it.

With tonight’s blowout loss to Charlotte (at home with Garland back in the lineup), they are now 1-5 over their last six games. They seem to have fallen off a cliff after blowing out the Bucks. I’m not sure what their current ranking is in the eastern conference, but I’m pretty confident that they aren’t in third place like they were at one point. They’ve lost to teams such as the Pistons, Hawks, and Hornets.

So the question needs to be asked: will Cleveland fall out of playoff contention entirely? Or will they find their groove again and go back to being a dominant defensive unit that caused matchup problems for opposing ranks? If injuries stop consistently occurring, then I’m willing to go with the latter. But part of me is starting to lose confidence in their ability to maintain their position in the East.

It's going to get interesting between Cleveland, Toronto and Brooklyn.

I think Boston will keep winning but those 3 should battle for 6th. Brooklyn has ways to catch up but KD is back now.

I seriously doubt they'll miss the playoffs entirely, but they could fall into the play-in. They're currently #5 in the East, with the Celtics nipping at their heels (only a half-game behind them I think). If the Celts continue their excellent play (which could be stalled because Brown will miss a few games) and if KD comes back and starts dominating again, the Cavs could be pushed out of the top 6. That's assuming the Cavs don't recover their great early-season form, though.

The East is very good and very deep this season. It's very realistic for the Cavs to fall into the play in, I actually expect it. Most would agree that the Cavs have been playing over their heads for most of the season.

I guess it depends on what you consider 'making the playoffs'. If you're talking about guaranteed then they have ot be top-6 and they certainly are in danger of falling out of that. They have a 1.5 game lead on Toronto who is 7th.

If you are 7th or 8th you gotta win 1 play-in game to make the playoffs. If you are 9th or 10th you gotta win 2.

To fall out of the top-10 they have a 7.5 game lead on Washington. So outside of like a 10 game losing streak and finishing the season like 2w/18l in their last 20... I think they're pretty much going to get to the play-in at worst.

It would be pretty hard for them to fall to any lower than 8, if they have an absolutely catastrophic last 18 games after this they might fall as far as 10, which is still in the play in.

They could miss the playoffs. Barring injury, they're not going to finish ahead of Boston or Toronto. If they finish 7th, which is likely, they could easily lose to Brooklyn, then Atlanta, and miss the playoffs.

The Cavs currently have a 99.9% chance of making the playoffs. Having a 0.1% chance of missing the playoffs isn't "real danger"

But everyone did say the Caris LeVert trade was a mistake. Not that he's the only real for the recent struggles, but the team isn't ready to compete yet and shouldn't waste assets that don't net long term pieces in return.

There current trajectory will land them in the Play In.

I love that the OP made a thread specifically concentrating on the standings without ever checking the standings first lol. Solid research.

I think the most likely outcome is to drop a little in the standings and then first round exit, which is perfectly fine and normal for a young team.

Although the Hawks were also young last year and made it to the ECF so you never know.

I think his topic was playoff contention, as in how serious a playoff contender they’ll be- not whether they’re in danger of missing the playoffs entirely.

Typing two paragraphs and waiting hours to get an answer that would take three words and a few seconds isn't smart, or easy. You took the hard route, and made yourself look ridiculous.
