In the same category as the other teams around there. But guess it depends what u count as a contender? Celtics are 10th in the league atm. So yes and no. Its not impossible they can win, but the competition is fierce. According to espns full league table:

They haven’t played anyone good and Tatum is an overrated ball hog selfish chucker who doesn’t make his team better. Jaylen also is an overrated chucker that is a disturbance in the locker room and was one of the reason why Kyrie left according to a few Nets fans here. They don’t have anyone that’s a top 20 player nor are they that talented. According to a few Raps fans here Vanvleet and Siakam are just as good as Tatum and Brown so yeah nothing special with those guys. Celtics need to blow it up and trade for proven winners like Sabonis and Halliburton to save their future.

If nobody believes in the Suns as a contender, I don't expect others to believe in us. The Suns have dominated 2 seasons and made the finals.

The issue I think people have is like the Suns we don't have an MVP candidate or top 5 player. Tatum is trending in the right direction, but he doesn't have the track record of others.

Another thing is how many series would the Celtics be favoured in because I think a contender would be favoured in all but 1 or 2 tossups. For example, are the Celtics favored over the Heat, Sixers, or Bucks???? I might like our chances but these series look more like we would be the underdog or tossup at best.

Seriously though, the Celtics have had three straight quality wins: beating two hot teams in the Hawks and Grizzlies (while missing Brown at that), and going toe-to-toe with the nearly full-strength Nets.

No one can question the quality of their wins anymore.

Yes, they’re only beating playoff teams and disrupting championship contenders as well as anyone.

Call me when they start proving they can beat bad teams seeded 10 and below, and not play down to them.
