ESPN/ABC NBA coverage is horrific.

Post#1 » by SunsWinSunsWin » Thu Mar 10, 2022 12:21 am

It's amazing how much of a drop off there is from the TNT crew to ESPN. NBA TV is also much better. The analysts on ESPN seem to only want to get the most shock value with their opinions and it's obvious they seem to focus more on being woke than providing actually real insight into the league and season. The ABC broadcasts are equally awful with no halftime analysis really at all. It's almost like ESPN only wants to sensationalize and appease the woke community. I guess that is why they are bleeding money and talent over the years.

Stop blaming everything on the "wokeness" boogeyman.

Yes, ESPN/ABC's NBA coverage is awful, but it's because they've been throwing **** at the wall and hoping it sticks for years now. The amount of turnover they've had on their pregame and halftime crew has been off the charts. There's been no time for any chemistry to develop, and they just seem directionless overall. Like do they want to provide sound analysis? Do they want to be entertaining? They've tried to do it all over the years, and it just never works. Right now they're basically trying to force a First Take/Undisputed sort of dynamic and it's awful.

TNT pretty much decided they're going to do entertainment, and they do it well. Nothing is forced, they don't pretend to be anything they're not, and they've developed incredible chemistry over two decades.

I agree with you however I stand by my comments. They intentionally go out of their way to ensure black women are featured in every NBA show. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind women discussing the game but it's obvious they are making decisions to ensure they appease the woke mob. It's like they have to have a ratio of black women, black men and white people on every broadcast. Gender and skin color outweigh talent. ESPN has been mixing in left wing politics into their broadcasts for years and it really came to a head after George Floyd. You would think Disney would care about their bottom line more than conforming with the left but they just don't seem to care. Fox is a good alternative as they stick to what fans tune in to watch, sports.

Are you saying Fox Sports is not a good alternative?

And are you really saying ESPN doesn't heavily lean left?

ESPN has been unwatchable for years. If I ever watch a game on ESPN or ABC, I skip the pre-game entirely and find something else to do during halftime. TNT, on the other hand, I usually find myself not even watching the game but tuning in for pregame, halftime, and the post game wrap up lol. I take the complete opposite approach.

ESPN moved all their man to Los Angeles. It is dumb. They thought Lebron was gonna turn the Lakers into the Heatles West. Almost all their reporting staff is based out there now to be near Lebron .

So, unfortunately, the Lakers suck and Lebron is over. But guys got jobs covering Lebron and they don’t know how to cover the nba without framing around Lebron.

Insane .

Linking an article that is so obviously politicly biased doesn't move the argument forward. ESPN has been recording record losses and have had to lay off hundreds of employees and some of their best talent over the last few years.

You just cemented your inability to adapt to the dynamic nature of cultures or the mainstream. Please take off your political clown space. If your character cannot accept the improving diversity of NBA broadcasters and social media itself, you are a deranged thinker who cares nothing for POC or equality. Racial biases have scarred generations of our history. And tribalism is still what slows our weary world.

You're spot on.

I do really like Wilbon though. I think he's good and have always liked him.

I can never watch anything with Jalen Rose. He's by far the worst NBA analyst of all time. I would rather watch Stephen A than him.

Racial biases have nothing to do with broadcasting the NBA and discussing the NBA or sports in general in 2022. Everyone other than those that use divisive identity politics as a weapon to bludgeon those who don't act like lemmings is sickening and is the reason Trump was elected in the first place. I am 100% Jewish and my demographic has more hate crimes against than any other in America. I don't see the media or Hollywood standing up against the rampant anti-Semitism that still shows it's ugly face. Your argument is only beating the same drum that all the elites spew on a daily basis. It's really nauseating.

Edit:. Btw, I'm married to a Mexican national so you saying I don't care about people of color is again just proving my point about people like you.

And to get back on topic, my whole point is that ESPN executives care more about "diversity" than who is best for the role based on skill, ability and talent. It's the same thing we are seeing with Biden limiting his Supreme Court pick to a black woman and instead not to who is best qualified, who may just happen to be a woman, who may just happen to be black. No, we have to insert divisive garbage into everything now and it unfortunately hasn't spared sports.

I found an even more updated number - does this satisfy your credibility requirement or is Breitbart all I can source from?

The network was also the top cable network overall among total viewers in total day and primetime. (ESPN took that title among viewers 25-54).

Why are you trying to defend ESPN? We all know about their huge losses and several rounds of large layoffs in recent years with high turnover across the board. It's okay though, I hope those stats help you sleep better at night.

TNT sucks for actual basketball analysis. It's basically a comedy show.
