If Chamberlain played in the modern era would he be considered the GOAT

Post#1 » by migya » Mon Mar 21, 2022 4:01 pm

If Chamberlain had played from 2000 to 2013, suppose on a reasonable team, like Miami, first replacing Mourning and no Shaq, same roster as they had, Wade drafted in 2004, Chamberlain injured or something so Miami misses playoffs in 2003.

Does he get championships and other accolades like mvps? How many?

Would he be considered the GOAT?

in terms of his skill set when he actually played or upgraded with modern skills of a big man?

he will also probably be flooded with lawsuits of women who claim the baby is his. lmao

His skillset was better than almost every Center anyway, he was ahead of his time.

Wilt died in 1999, so I wouldn't expect much out of his corpse post-2000.

I think he would be slightly better than prime Kwame Brown.

Answer to the thread question. Yes.

Wilt was one of the most gifted athletes in history, period. He was a 7-2 sprinter, long-jumper, with incredible strength and physical control. Arnold said they were working out together and Wilt picked him up off the ground easily with one arm. Wilt would have had all the tools to adapt to today's game. He would have been better today than he was in the 1960's. By the time Wilt hit his third or fourth year in the league, I believe he was sort of bored with the game. He dominated. Today's game would have been more interesting to him. He would have a LeBron type game at 7-2.

Assuming modern nutrition, training, AAU routing, the value of learning from more advanced players coming before him, etc.

He’d be dominant.

Plucking him out of the past and puttib. Him on a modern roster, he’d be an average starting center.

The man was a physical freak. He could easily outrun anyone in the game. He was a track star. He could out jump anyone. He could push anyone around.

With today's level of defense allowed, he'd be unguardable. He's wasn't a typical big man. He could fly like a small forward.

With today's level of training it's hard to imagine what an improved Chamberlain would look like.

He's already in the conversation of GOAT. He would be even more so. But part of what would put him on top or not would be what team he ended up being on and if the roster and coach were a good mix for him.

yes.

because today, fans and media alike are so disrespectful of the "process to greatness" they proclaim anyone "goat"

but wilt is a much uch much much much more athletic giannis. wilt was one of the greatest athletes of the CENTURY! the difference between a wilt back then and a wilt today would be today's wilt could draw upon all the advancements in the game over the past 60years, medically, training, and accumulated knowledge

think about it. the only training wilt did back then was, well,,,, :o :o :o you know
he'd could probably even add another 10,000 because "they'll like it too" :cuddle :cuddle :cuddle

It's so easy to think Wilt played a million years ago, but then you look at clips like this and see not only how quickly eras go by, but also how each era is connected to the previous:

The right way to think this is what would happen if you put a talent like Wilt in the modern era.

He probably would be faster, stronger and more skilled. Which is a very scary thought.

But also, i think playstyle today is harder for huge Centers without a perimeter game. Maybe the ideal time for him would have been to play in the mid 90's or early 2000's.

The big advantage you'd get from putting Wilt in the modern era is a longer career though. Wilt was already 23 in his rookie year, put him in the modern era and he could have his debut season at 18 or 19. Then considering Wilt stayed in great shape even after his playing days and better training and medicine he should be able to play on a couple extra years too.

Without that he'd probably still get a boost though in overall rankings due to basketball tactics and coaching being further along. Wilt playing a more team oriented game like he did for the 76ers and Lakers from day 1 could very well lead to him having the GOAT career although at 14 seasons (including one injured in 03) he'd probably come up short of MJ, LeBron and Kareem still.

No. MJ and LeBron are outright superior basketball players.

I'm honestly not convinced Wilt would be better than Jokic in today's NBA.

There is a black and white video of Wilt doing a finesse move that no one today would pull off. He was on the left block, about 17 feet, near the baseline and made a turnaround fadeaway jump shot turning over his right shoulder, off the backboard! People forget that Wilt was a Globetrotter, so his level of creativity was at the top of the profession.
