This is like celebrating someone breaking the 3pt percentage record after making the 3pt line closer to the basket.

LeBron averages more ppg than Kareem for his career...so those "three extra seasons" don't matter. He's going to do it in less games than Kareem.

Kareem was always more of a team player. Reason why he won more.

I'd argue the other guy in the top 5 all-time lists may also have contributed to that.

On a side note, Bron only needs 6 rebounds to pass Otis Thorpe on the all time list for 37th place. Along with 6 steals to pass Olajuwon for 9th all time in steals.

crazy that LeBron's actually made it here after this has been a talking point for years & years

yes it seems obvious he'll hit it now, but even just a few years back it was still up for debate

no one will come close to besting this record again. to average over 27 points over the span of 20 years is insane, not to mention
LeBron played an average of 70 games each year

this new generation of players are just not built like that. Kawhi is a good/extreme example of where the league is trending: 12 seasons in, averaging 19 points, but only played an average of 48 games (granted, injuries)

even players like Westbrook & Harden who at their peaks were notorious iron men:
Westbrook: 15 seasons averaging 22 points with an average of 70 games played
Harden: 14 seasons averaging 25 points with an average of 68 games played

the longevity + high level of play is really unparalleled, especially considering Bron was always on competing teams throughout his career as well

It's inevitable, considering he's attempting more fg's per game than any other time in his career other than 3 other seasons (including last year). He's really upped his shooting volume the last 2 years to make sure he gets there (even though he's shooting at his worst fg% of any year other than his rookie year at just 46%).

That personally is why I think he's the GOAT.

Was his peak the highest ever seen? No, I don't think so but just the longevity and consistency to keep doing it.

He didn't quit to play baseball or quit to play golf or quit to run a team/shoe brand, the guy just stuck with playing basketball.

February seems like the month.

If he does it on February 3 against the Pels then it will be 2/3/23.. that would be awesome..

It's 21 games from now. Needs to average 30ppg for next 21 games.

Pelicans fans will love the Lakers.

Gifting them Wemby and being able to witness the all time points record be broken in their building. Amazing
