David Griffin gets a lot of crap thrown at him, but he basically got CJ for peanuts

You're riding high after that 7-16 shooting performance he had tonight, huh?

He's averaging 26/5/6 on 50% shooting.

People were treating him like he was a scrub in trade rumours. I'm glad he's been killing it. The Pelicans once healthy look like a super dangerous team.

Heck, if Ingram and Zion come back this year, I think they can do some damage.

Lonzo Ball should be a Pelican...

Before the deal took place I remember saying on trade threads 'I don't think it is the right direction, but if I woke up tomorrow and saw it was done, I wouldn't be upset.'

And I still kinda feel that way. He hasn't got the most elite PG intangibles, but he is a steady hand and a veteran star the team needed to be better, sooner.

Not to mention I think Nance has a spot on the roster moving forward, too. Was a great trade for the Pels. Now they just need to get that Lakers pick.

CJ Mccollum has been better than advertised, wish he had gotten out of Dame’s shadow much earlier in his career. I have a feeling CJ can/will play a Chris Paul star veteran type of role on the Pelicans.

Zion started attending games when CJ called him out, he is holding everyone accountable, he’s been an excellent pick up.

Every team is stealing players from Portland. I wouldn't be surprise if they traded Lillard for Beal at this point.

Myself and most Pels fans were saying this when the trade went down. After their horrible 1-12 start, the Pels were 21-20 up until they traded for CJ. Its even more impressive considering BI missed some time during that stretch as well. The Pels knew even without Zion they could make a push for the play in and even be a threat to get into the playoffs if they made a move.

And the move they desperately needed was getting BI some help on the offensive end. He really had no consistent help on the offensive end. Bringing in CJ meant a legit guy that can play off of BI and can create offense when BI sits or just so BI didnt have to do it every possession.

Once they gave up the dumb starting the tiny backcourt idea after a few games after the trade and turned fully into the, lets just put out a ton of size and glue-role guys and have BI and CJ do everything offensively. They really clicked.

With BI back, I think there is a very good chance the Pels are one of the 2 teams to make it out of the Play-in. It will be very good for this team to get some playoff experience.

Good for CJ. Looking like a perennial all star level player rn.

Was it Dame who was holding him back all along? [/green-font-that-is-somewhat-close-to-yellow/non-green-colour]

I mean, Dame does have the ball a lot and it’s not like there is a ton for someone like CJ to do when Dame is just launching from the logo or whatever.

Ingram Zion Cj can be an incredibly tough big 3… add in herb Jones defence (deserves to be in an all defensive team this year), and they are a tough out for anyone next year…

As someone said I didn't hate the deal because CJ is a solid player. My problem is it doesn't move the needle for this team. We were a fringe playoff team before the deal and we're a better fringe playoff team after. Griffin was trying to save himself and made a move that makes us better but not enough to move the team into a higher tier.

Leave it to the general board to make fun of Portland for this trade, when for years everyone said Portland had to trade CJ. Let me explain how CJ works, he will have a 5-7 game stretch where he looks unstoppable, a 7-10 game stretch where he looks fine, and then a 5-7 game stretch where he looks a bit bad, wash rinse repeat.

Since his only real skill is scoring, when he is out there and not able to do that he really doesn't provide much else. ****, many Blazer fans were deeming him a bad contract in recent years due to his salary vs. production.

Now could we have potentially gotten more for CJ? Maybe but I was not super upset with the package and there was no way keeping him was an option for the Blazers, Anfernee appears to be a better CJ at the very least and likely will be starting as a guard for the foreseeable future.

He's really playing good, but I'm still not sure it was the right decision. They still probably won't make the playoffs and he's getting older. The odds of a better pick is nothing to sneeze at in their situation.

I'm not sure people were arguing that he wouldn't make them better.

Lost in the shadows is my guy JV putting up an excellent 18/12 season without any fanfare.
