2022 HoF Announcement: Manu, Hardaway and George Karl

Post#1 » by CIN-C-STAR » Fri Apr 1, 2022 4:16 am

I believe this is the first year Manu was eligible too, so looks like he will be a first-ballot HoFer (deservedly so, imo, because it is the basketball Hall of Fame and NOT the NBA HoF).
Hardaway is kind of borderline imo. 5X All Star, 5X All NBA, one season in top-5 MVP voting (#4).
I think he was more iconic than good, not to say he wasn't good but his game during that stretch of All Star play was just really fun to watch even if not the most efficient. Pretty long career too, 15K points and 7K assists (y'all still don't think Derozan will make it btw??)
George Karl is a no brainer imo. Innovative coach and #6 all time in wins. Enough said, despite only one finals appearance.

Anyway it's not official yet but here's the story including the non-NBA people selected:

Hardaway is a reminder that the Basketball HoF is definitely a “big hall” approach.

Not that Penny wasn’t great for a while, and not that he wasn’t an icon for a while, too. But these doors are pretty clearly wide open.

My favourite non-Celtic player ever. Beyond thrilled for him, a true team player. Also, just love a guy who attempts crazy passes on a regular basis.

To his credit he did acknowledge he was wrong for saying that and took steps to educate himself and make things right, people make mistakes sometimes.

im surprised that Tim got in. I'm glad he did though. I loved his play. His UTEP 2step is one of the most devastating crossovers ever. I spent so much time trying to get that move down. It sounds like he put in the work to make things right with the gay community.

Shoutout Tim Hardaway though. Him and Mike Vick unironically. People make mistakes and should be punished for it. But they should also be forgiven when they apologize and take steps to change their behaviour or viewpoint.

As a biased Heat fan glad Tim finally made it. Manu and Karl were no brainers

I thought it was Penny Hardaway. I thought Tim was barred from all HoF talks after his anti-gay tirade?

I'd hate it if players' social opinions are considered for his HoF status, it the HoF of basketball, not progressive left, I'd bet a good money, that most of those in the HoF that grew before the 90s held similar views to him, 2 of the ATG, Hakeem and Stockton, are religious consertaives (Muslim and Catholic), and they don't share the progressive left opinions.
Keep it for basketball and leave this crap out.
With that being said Tim Hardaway making it is a bit of stretch.

He had a bad opinion. He was raised in a time when most Americans had a similar opinion. We’re all to some extent a product of our surroundings. I’m as liberal as they come but I don’t see the value in permanently shunning someone for something they once thought.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.
