Anyone else really like these sudden death play in games?

Post#1 » by kobe tier » Sat Apr 16, 2022 1:55 am

Watching the Cavs/Hawks right now.

Games are exciting as ****, knowing the season is on the line in this one game.

Basically the opposite of meaningless regular-season games.

Gotta give it to Silver, this is fire.

Love it

When it's not a blowout they're fun.

Every single sport/league/tournament I watched all my life is like that.

So for me it's mostly a case of thinking NBA is weird with the million games rather than liking this, this is normal.

I love em. Hard for me to care that much about even a good late seed PO game but I don’t get how you don’t get geeked about any full scale fighting for your season battle like this. Last years Warriors-Lakers was the game I remember being most hype at from the whole season (PO included), and without a play in there’s zero chance I would’ve cared more about a Cavs game in April than I did tonight.

Not really. The games are fun but it encourages teams to make treadmill moves that hurt them in the future. e.g. The Kings

love it.

i can't for the life of me understand why anyone dislikes the play-in. if you like meaningful basketball, how can you not like this.

I love it. We’ll look back at the play in as one of the most innovative developments in all of pro sports. I’m home on a Friday watching a game between the Hawks and Cavs. It takes the best aspect of March madness, the NFL playoffs and adapts it to the NBA. Silver deserves a ton of kudos for pulling this off.

The kings woes go way before the play in games.

I thought the best of five had better drama.

Maybe rose coloured glasses, but a true upset was likelier.

The point is that it encourages treadmill teams to stay on the treadmill. As long as they stay in the play in mix, they will not blow up the roster

Not a fan. I Don’t like 67% of the league potentially getting in the playoffs. The regular season is belittled to me.

I mean I’m enjoying it and I’m definitely eating crow about it but innovative I’m not sure lol I mean we’ve had wild card games in other sports for a while now

How is a upset more likely in a 5 game series, than 1 and done? Does not compute.

You think St. Peter's would have beat Kentucky or Purdue in a 5 games series or even a 3 games series, hell no. One game is what makes so many upsets in a NCAA tourney.

I've liked the play-in from the beginning. Top 6 teams rewarded with playoff locks. Next 4 teams semi-rewarded with the opportunity to enter the playoffs. More is fought for in the regular season and these games are fun. I think a lot of critics hate it because they think the 7th and 8th seeds deserve it because that's how it's always been. I like the fact that being the 7th best team in half the league doesn't necessarily entitle you to the playoffs.

Still the same number of teams in the playoffs as always. Just a little harder to make 7th and 8th.
