Undeserved.. mainly won due to reputation. I mean was he even best defender on Celtics? Wasn't Rob Williams better than him this season?

Bit of a surprise choice to say the least, don't hate it though. The Cs had a really good defense and Smart does have a reputation

This is a bad take. Did you even watch the game? Smart wasn’t Kyrie’s primary defender last night. Most of his points were scored on players not named Smart.

Either way, Kyrie is going to get his cause he’s ridiculously talented and a stone cold killer in the playoffs. But Smart is a great defender and makes guys earn their points while really putting his body on the line.

With that said, an argument can be made that Gobert or Giannis deserved it over Smart. That’s the real argument here, if there is one.

Well deserved. He’s been putting his body on the line year after year game after game. I’m glad his defense is being recognized in a big way.

I’m not sure if social media broke it or not but I caught it during pregame on tnt a few minutes ago and it was refreshing to see the news come live from tv instead of the internet.

Smart isn’t the most impactful defender in the league, or even on his team. But he puts everyone in position to be be their best self defensively, and absolutely leads by example. I think it’s cool that a guard got to win, too.

Either way, I’m freaking pumped for him, dude has put in a TON of work on his game.

Zeke said that KD asked him how he would go up against Mikal since he's such a good defender. KD didn't ask about anyone else. The players know who is DPOY. Leaving it up to the media to vote for these awards and all-nba teams is just garbage. Let the coaches and players decide who among their peers is deserving of the acclimades.
