Defrtg after 2 PO games
Jokic 141.8
Adamas 140.0
Valanciunas 125.5
Town 124.5
Ayton 121.6
Embiid 117.2 (w/o Barnes/Trent in 2nd game)
Gobert 116.4 (w/o Doncic)
PF or smaller centers
Green 109.6
Adebayo 94.3
Jackson 109.4
Collins 114.7
Harris 106.6
Crowder 116.5
Its only two games, but it doesnt look good for the biggest guys on the floor. They cant defend these days offences. Embiid/Gobert are playing against guards/wings who are far from elite group.

Jokic 141 lmfao, but but, he's such a good defender now. More proof that advanced stats aren't the end all and be all of analyzing the game.

Lol. I guess Jokic is doing a poor job defending guards firing 3 pointers in the perimeter

Impressive number for Bam considering last night--he was noticeably a step slow and disengaged yesterday. He definitely didn't play up to his typical standard last night. Apparently he's slowed by a thigh contusion from Game 1 (where his D was impeccable). I just hope 2 days between games will give him time to get right.

Unfair sample size until teams play at their home court

2 games in. Totally a great time to bust out the statistical analysis. OP also leaves out players that dont help his point. Vooch has a Drtg of 90 (guess he's the best now!), Lopez 92, Whiteside 100, Dedmon 96. All big centers with good defensive ratings through 2 games. And tons of small ball centers with bad defensive ratings: all the Raptors (because duhhh they're getting blown out),all the nuggets (gordon and both greens... Big center Boogie leads the nuggets bigs in drtg), Maxi Kleber.
All drtg and ortg tell us right now is: who has played in high scoring games.
This thread is bad sample size theatre.

People just haven’t seen embiid been wrecking havoc on defense. I watch the games. He’s altering shots at the rim. Defenders aren’t driving against him. He’s stepping out on the perimeter cutting off smaller guards as well.
But Op isn’t wrong. It’s a make or miss lead and nothing centers can do with 3 point shooting.
But on the flip side. Midget teams not playing bigger centers will get demolish on the inside with Embiid this entire post season.

Thank you for adding sense to this. The amazing Vooch looking like one of the best defenders ever!

what's the overall DRTG of the line-ups they are playing in, what's the net rating of the line-ups they are playing in. Cs are still important on offense for setting screens and finishing at the rim.
It is interesting though because Memphis demolished Minnesota last night and a big reason why was because they took Adams out of the game and never played him again.
But obviously a players DRTG is going to suffer if the overall D of the team is worse.

This is silly, it's been two games. Barely different than posting numbers after one game.

So when a stat tells us Vucevic is great defender it has to be dismissed, but when a stat tells us Jokic is amazing defender it cannot be dismissed? I would like some consistency for sure.

Yeah, because we all know how meaningful defensive metrics are in general, on a small sample size and in particular to highlight individual defensive impact.

Embiid will be spent as we get deeper into playoffs as usual, and he will also choke when it matters, at best he will dominate in the first quarters, but at end of games he will disappear as usual. We need to have a plan B, we definitely have more options now with Harden and Maxey.

Wake me up if the trend holds over a couple rounds. You cant make a statistical case for anything with so little data. That's why they invented the term "sample size theatre", to explain that using tiny amounts of data to prove a point is purely spectacle and should never be taken seriously as analysis. You made a statistical analysis topic built on the most common statistical analysis fallacy.
If you want to argue against this concept, why wait for 2 games? Why not write a topic in the first half of the first playoff game? Why not the first minute? Why not just use the first possession to draw a useful conclusion.
