JJ Redick is ...

Post#1 » by CobraCommander » Tue Apr 26, 2022 5:56 pm

JJ Redick is actually better on TV than he was at basketball-

I don’t know about you guys but I can’t watch SAS, but when I accidentally hear him speak and it is followed by JJ, I feel like I paid the toll (listening to Stephen A Smith say dumb $$$$) but it might have been worth it to listen to JJ.

JJ’s response to SAS is so good...and even though I disagree with JJs point, I can respect his argument.

Only issue with JJ is his continued affinity to players especially ones he's played. So he doesn't easily call anyone out and is very much a player's podcaster. His podcasts are really good cuz he definitely gets the player POV from controversial topics they were part of. So he's not a Barkley/Shaq type who calls out players with reckless abandon.

he was better on his pods than he is now too. it feels like now he's playing to a bigger audience and he's not the same any longer(of the very few espn casts i've seen)

I like guys who call players out more. Kyrie & Simmons types don’t need to be coddled by the media.

i don't agree with everything he says but he's definitely been solid. Nice to see some logic brought to ESPN NBA coverage for a change. As an aside, that state farm commercial he did is hilarious.

It's just a different era. Shaq and Barkley are also further removed from their playing days so they're not talking about guys that they played with or against like JJ Redick is.

Yeah he's got a little bit of bias because he's interviewing his buddies but everything he says is logical and well grounded. Definitely enjoy his podcast a ton

I like his podcast and with every other oldhead calling young players out, I don't mind that he's not doing the same (even though I like when old school guys **** on young pricks like Ben Simmons).

I’ve listened to his podcast quite a bit lately. He’s really biased towards today’s players cause the majority of them are his buddies. So he sucks up to em a bit and doesn’t really ask any “hard” questions. He thinks players from the 80’s & 90’s were plumbers, etc. So I don’t put a whole lot of stock into what he says about the game, but I do enjoy his interviews with current & former players as well as his his stories about former teammates.

He’s automatically better thank jokers like Kendrick Perkins, Reggie Miller, & Chris Webber by default though. Even Vince Carter, who I really like, is not a very good analyst. His breakdown of the game and players is pretty terrible honestly.

Reading this thread makes me realise why we have so many shock jocks in the NBA media piling on players rather than analyzing the game

Redick looks deformed when he's on First Take. The most uncomfortable face I've ever seen, like he's mentally congested in some way or somethings not working. Very strange. Plus he's hopeless at debating, because he's scared to commit, no courage.

I think Molly may want to get rid of JJ Redick since she isn't the prettiest face on the show anymore.

Sorta like Stephen A Smith got rid of Max for showing him up too often. :clown:

I mean even the best like Zach Lowe and our own Ben Taylor have biases because they are trying to build connections with the NBA community.

Even Skip Bayless and Steven A have their place as the J. Jonah Jamison’s of the NBA world. Someone needs to hold the players accountable and Michelle Tafoya sure ain’t doing it.
Sam Hinkie gets removed from the league for enacting a plan approved by the fanbase yet NIco Harrison and Patrick Dumont keep their job for alienating their fanbase. Make it make sense.

Well, Molly has a huge head for sure. I remember someone made fun of Stephen A. Smith's head being small, and Molly implied that her own head is too big and that there is nothing wrong with having a small head.
But Redick is no prize either, probably the most uncool personality we've ever seen, always uptight and stressed and that makes his face look weird and creepy.

Its just the format of Cable tv clickbait short clips. Podcast's go into detail and they take their time explaining things. It's the same issue with all cable news networks.

I don't watch the ESPN and Fox shows. But I will say from the clips I've seen from JJ on them. Even if I don't agree with all the points he's making, at least he's making legit arguments for them. You can tell he has put some thought behind what he's saying.

Compare that to pretty much everyone else on those shows, they just spout out the hottest of hot takes to try and garner some clicks and views.

So just from that view point alone, JJ seems to be a nice breath of fresh air on those kinds of shows.

(Still refuse to watch them though)

My judgement:

Sometimes it feels like one can get attention, laughter, or their wants/needs met more easily by sharing judgements and/or making fun of others, whether in school or online.
