SVG was very vocal about Giannis not getting called for charges. I've seen a lot of fans complain about him being able to barrel in, elbows up, and just run over players while not getting called for a charge or even drawing a foul call. This has to do with him being a rare combination of size, speed and ball handling. There's never been somebody like him. It's difficult to ref.

Is he treated better than other stars by the refs? Do things need to change?

I thought the call he made that point on definitely was not a charge

Giannis gets hacked constantly. if there's one player that deserves MORE calls, it's him

It can be tough to officiate him yeah, not unlike Shaq and other super-athletic, physical big men, but I'm getting a bit tired of all the unnecessary stuff from him.

I only caught about half the game tonight, but I noticed about 2-3x where he didn't need to be hitting or smashing in to people like he did. Last one I remember was him plowing in to Jaylen Brown near the baseline for no particular reason that I could tell.

Giannis is so mobile, strong, and snake-like (I mean that as a compliment), that he's going to inevitably bully other players no matter what, but I'm not a fan of how borderline-reckless he's become over the years. It's going to get others hurt for no good reason, I think.

I've been saying it for a while, he has one of the best whistles in the league. Constantly barrels into defenders, lowering his shoulder all the time, yet gets rewarded for it somehow. The man magically goes entire games with barely any fouls, given his super physical playstyle.

We just want consistency. They called 2 offensive fouls on Tatum which I thought were fair enough but Giannis did the same, if not worse and nothing.

They even reviewed one which was a clear charge on Giannis but they said they didn’t have enough evidence to overturn. How is there not enough evidence? This isn’t an out of bounds call where it’s too hard to see who touched it, it’s either an offensive foul or a block.

I counted 5 offensive fouls on Giannis and SVG had the same opinion on all 5.

He plows through people recklessly. There's being big and stronger than the opposition then there's being allowed to continue broken awkward plays and run through people because they initiated an aggressive cut off first.

Offensive players have been allowed to initiate a ton of contact for years now.
It's more egregious to look at when it's Giannis doing it, but it's no different than what all the guards and wings are doing. Giannis just happens to be huge and ripped.

Giannis doesn’t get enough calls, he gets bumped/hit 2 to 3 times on every drive. If this was LeBron he’d be going to the line every time. Can’t drape all over a guy just because he’s strong, so much contact occurring on Giannis with constant bumping, reaching, grabbing, hacking etc. those are clearly fouls and when the refs don’t call it, Giannis takes matters into his own hands and try’s to go through the defence hard to finish and then the Celtics act like they’re the victims. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I’ve seen all of Lebron’s career and I have Giannis right up there if not higher than prime Lebron when it comes to getting away with calls

The nba likes to favor stars. Happens. Giannis gets to run over people just like Lebron and shaq

He's hard to officiate.

Lots of flopping going on as well.

In fact, on the play where Stan made that exact quote, I thought it was a block/flop.

First of all, from players point of interest there are no "unnecessary" moves. If the refs don't call it, it's all fair game (of course with some exception, like Zaza moves are out of discussion here). Giannis being unusually big/strong/fast certainly makes it very difficult for the refs.

Physically dominant bigs all have these "unnecessary" moves, from Malone, Shaq, to Dwight. Sometimes they do that as self-protection because if you don't go hard on others others will go hard on you. That's how you play the bang bang game.

Obviously as fans we all like to see clean and fair games but that's just unrealistic. As players, their point of interest are different than us.

BS....no one in the last 20 years lived in the paint as much as Lebron w/o getting/going to the line as much as jump shooting wings such as Durant

They showed a stat that Giannis was 2nd in the league in offensive fouls this year, so I’m not buying that he gets favourable treatment.

He gets the LeBron treatment but on steroids. Classic case of the league trying to manufacture another face of the league.

He is allowed to do things that no other player is allowed to come remotely close to doing.

After seeing it a few times, it's really tiring to watch. It's barely even basketball. Especially when he's allowed to do a Euro step sticking up his elbows in the air. You're basically making the defender choose between a broken nose and letting him go by for an uncontested layup.

He’s got the verbal pau gasol flop going as well, doing it constantly now just yelling whenever he gets stripped or losing control

I mean if a guy is charging at you, what do you do? You stand your ground and take a charge need be because the alternative is laying down a red carpet to the rim. Giannis fans cringe when people take charges on him because of inherent risks but how else do you charge a guy running at you like a freight train? A player shouldn’t be rewarded extra for being fast and strong. The rule book doesn’t give two **** about genetics.
